NC-02: Heritage Action says Renee Ellmers most liberal GOP House member from NC

Heritage Action, the political arm of The Heritage Foundation, produces ratings that have become the gold standard for evaluating how conservative Members of Congress truly are.  They track votes throughout the year and rate each member of the House and Senate on a scale of ZERO (Bernie Sanders liberal) to 100 (Ted Cruz conservative.) The average House Republican is scoring 63 percent out of a possible 100 percent. The current ratings from Heritage Action show Walter Jones and George Holding tied, with 89 percent ratings, as the most conservative House members from North Carolina.  Mark Meadows and Mark Walker are next…

Heritage Action: Jones is US House’s most conservative NCGOPer

Walter Jones’s primary foes are working hard to paint him as a liberal and a “Pelosi Republican.”  The latest scorecard from Heritage Action ranks Jones as the most conservative House member (88%) from North Carolina.  George Holding comes in a close (87%) second, while Mark Meadows (83%) and Mark Walker (83%)  tie for third. Virginia Foxx and Patrick McHenry, our two members of House leadership, are tied at 67% each.  (100 percent is perfect conservatism.  A zero ranking puts you in hard-core commie territory.)  Renee Ellmers ranks as North Carolina’s most liberal Republican House member, with a ranking of 58…

Heritage Action: Jones, Meadows NC’s top conservatives; Ellmers, Burr most liberal GOPers

According to the folks over at Jim DeMint’s shop, the two guys in our delegation in the most trouble with leadership are doing the best job of abiding by the principles of conservatism.  Reps. Walter Jones and Mark Meadows are tied at the top of Heritage Action’s scorecard for North Carolina with scores of 87 (out of a possible 100). George Holding is in a close second with a score of 85.  David Rouzer gets an 82, and Richard Hudson and Mark Walker tie at 81.  Virginia Foxx and Robert Pittenger tie at 72 each.  Patrick McHenry earns a 68,…

Virginia Foxx: Hatin’ on Heritage. (Lovin’ some Boehner.)

We have stuff — audio, video, photos, pdfs, and the like — coming over the transom all the time and dropping into our laps.  One of the latest arrivals is an audio recording of US Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-5th-NC) talking with some voters during The Civitas Institute’s Conservative Leadership Conference in Raleigh at the end of March. One of our moles was close by when the conversation occurred, and confirmed for us that it is indeed Foxx on the recording.  She’s very pleasant with the voters, until she learns at least two of them — North Carolinians Ginny Quaglia and Mary…

Heritage Action: Meadows top conservative for NC, Duncan on top for SC

Heritage Action has updated their conservatism rankings for the current session of Congress.  There HAS been some shakeup in the North Carolina delegation.  For the current 113th Congress (2013-2014) , Reps. Mark Meadows, George Holding and Robert Pittenger appear to be racking up the most conservative voting records in the delegation. Contrast that with the 112th (2011-2012), where Virginia Foxx, Patrick McHenry and Richard Burr were at the top of the rankings. (Foxx and McHenry are moving up in the leadership ranks in the House — so that probably explains the falling conservative rankings.)  Foxx fell from 1st place in…

Ellmers: Heritage Action = Hypocrites

Second District  congresswoman Renee Ellmers hosted a town hall meeting in Pinehurst Tuesday night.  And, of course, we were there with a camera rolling. During the more than 150-minute event, Ellmers responded to critics who question her — and her colleagues’ — level of conservatism: ”How do you tell who is more conservative? Is there a mood ring out there somewhere?” Dee Park, a local activist affiliated with Heritage Action for America, had a nice comeback (roughly at the 1hr, 35 minute mark on the video) : “Heritage Action has a nice mood ring on their…

Heritage Action poll: No need for GOP to fear govt shutdown in ObamaCare defund fight

Richard Burr, Renee Ellmers and Bob Pittenger — take note.  It would appear that Mitch McConnell and John Boehner are blowing smoke up your posteriors: Heritage Action for America – one of the conservative groups leading the charge to pressure Republican lawmakers against voting to continue government spending unless they can defund President Barack Obama’s health care law – said its new poll of likely voters in 10 relatively competitive congressional districts showed that forcing such a shutdown would not be fatal for the GOP in 2014. Two of those ten districts polled are in North  Carolina:…

Heritage Action, activists turning up the heat in ObamaCare defund fight

Congress is in summer recess.  Typically, members go home to their districts and states to hold town hall meetings and brief the voters on happenings in DC.  Strangely, very few pols are holding court with the voters this time around. When they come back to DC, Congress will vote on a continuing resolution to keep the government running — because they STILL, after four years, cannot produce a budget.  Opponents of ObamaCare, led by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) in the Senate and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) in the House, see the continuing resolution as the last best chance to put…

Heritage Action vs. Richard Burr: (Showdown at the Twitter Corral?)

That feisty bunch at Heritage Action has been shooting with both barrels at The Tar Heel State’s US Senators.  Heritage Action often gets dismissed as a GOP group, but their people are giving Republican Richard Burr as much — if not more — HELL as Democrat Kay Hagan. North Carolina-based Heritage Action leaders took Hagan to task in a Twitter town hall she hosted.   Those same activists are frustrated with Burr, the Republican, for  his pro-gun control votes and what they see as an overall lack of conservative leadership on his part.  Heritage Action issued a challenge to…
