#ncga: (*CHOKE!*) Folding like one of Jason Saine’s suits.

I guess it was too much to expect the NCGOPe to stand strong for an embattled conservative member of their party.  (Or even to fight for clean elections.  Or defend one of their former House colleagues who lost reelection under shady circumstances.)  We told you about a call from a conservative activist group to delay the seating of state Rep.-elect Rachel Hunt (D-Mecklenburg) due to the discovery of some credible evidence of vote fraud in Mecklenburg County.  Some say more credible than that which caused the Ninth Congressional District seat to be denied certification.  Comments from House Majority Leader John…

#ncga: Auditing Mr. Saine

He’s vice chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Senior Chairman of the Finance Committee.  He has a lot of say on issues relating to the state’s finances and the your bank account.  But it appears the gentleman from Lincoln County is having quite the challenge following the rules and managing his own campaign finances. The state board of elections released its findings from an audit of NC Rep. Jason Saine’s campaign finances from 2013-2015.   From what we can see, it’s NOT pretty.  Some highlights: The transaction below was reported with the wrong payee. The correct payee was East Lincoln RW. This…

#ncga: Dollar, Saine scoring political points at county govt expense

A reader raised this possibility earlier.  After looking into it, I think the reader may have a point. There was existing legislation granting property tax exemptions for the first $45,000 in appraised value to “disabled veterans.” ( That sounds so nice.  But the legislation makes no distinction between the guy who ripped his Achilles tendon while playing for the battalion basketball team stateside, and the guy who got IEDed in Mosul.)  For those of you who don’t know, property taxes are one of the biggest ways county governments fund their operations.  Legislation like this really lays a wallop on counties…

#ncga: Jason Saine, no opponents but STILL hoovering up that special interest cash

Yessirree.  We’ve heard all about the esteemed chairman of the House Finance Committee, the gentleman from Lincoln County, and his amazing rise from unemployment to finance kingpin. His skill at “appropriating” his campaign funds toward *important campaign tools* like  new clothes ($19,000-plus), iPads, airline flights, travel and meals have become the stuff of legend.  (Fletcher Hartsell, I’m sure, is especially impressed.) Young Jason had NO opposition this year in the primary or general election.  Yet, official documents show his campaign is still raking in the special interest cash.  Considering the dire straits of the House Caucus campaign finances, you would have…

#ncga: Naming Names. (Jason Saine, Kelly Hastings, Tom James … )

On the face of it, H1042 looks like good policy.  It appears to require candidates for office to account for EVERY DIME their campaign takes in.  If a person gives you ONE DOLLAR, you need their name, address, and occupation for your campaign report.  Some may complain: “Why do this for one dollar? You’re not really buying any influence with one dollar are you?” (Considering some of the whores we have running around here in campaign season, I’d bet you could get at least ONE of them to sell out — or even outright STEAL — for ONE DOLLAR.) This…

Jason Saine: No primary or general election opposition. Over $122K in “campaign expenses.”

Politicians like to talk tough on ethics — banning gifts from lobbyists, limiting contribution amounts, that kind of thing. But what does all that matter when people with interests before a particular legislative body simply donate to a pol’s “campaign fund” which is then used as a slush fund for living expenses by said politicians? For example, let’s look at state Rep. Jason Saine (R) of Lincoln County.  We all know about his taste in clothes. The guy has no primary or general election opposition. Yet, his latest campaign finance disclosure report shows $122,598.04 in “campaign expenditures.” What is there…

#ncga: Even more ALEC-Jason Saine goodness

The Haymaker is EVERYWHERE, folks.  I mean: EVERYWHERE.    I was contacted yesterday by a very plugged-in source from our nation’s capital.  This source was expressing some interest in our item about state Rep.Jason Saine and his big-spending re-election campaign in an off-year. Many of the biggest expenses charged to the campaign appeared to be in San Diego, CA and Scottsdale, AZ right about the time meetings of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) were taking place.   There was a meeting in San Diego in July 2015 and in Scottsdale in December.  The Saine campaign was charged for airline…

#ncga A Saine for a Saine: A GREAT Super Bowl bet

That tubby little parasite Jason Saine is getting in on the ol’ bet-a-pol-from-the-other-state meme that has been beat to death for DECADES around Super Bowl time:   From: Rep. Jason Saine Sent: Wednesday, February 03, 2016 5:03 PMTo: @House/Members; @Senate/MembersSubject: Will You Accept the Challenge? Go Panthers! Dear Colleagues:   In the spirit of charity, competition, and the Carolina Panthers, I (representative of Lincoln County which includes Denver, NC) have entered into a friendly wager with my rival Representative Lori Saine of Colorado!    We have agreed that the Representative Saine from the losing state in Super Bowl 50 will volunteer one hour for every point by which their…

#ncga Jason Saine: Mo’ money, NO problems (apparently).

You would THINK — after becoming a statewide laughingstock — some people would learn a lesson.  But no, the NCGA’s (and Lincoln County’s) $19,000 man is still rolling along, living the good life on the campaign fund. Jason Saine’s mid-year reports are already well-reported on and well-known.  His year-end documentation reveals more of the same.  It appears that solar-subsidy-loving gazillionaire Jay Faison and his wife dumped a combined $10,200 in Saine’s campaign treasury.  They don’t live in Saine’s district, and Saine is unopposed in the primary and general election.   From July 1 through December 31, Saine reported raising $51,128.17…

#ncga: Jason Saine, unopposed.

You almost have to wonder WHAT is going on in Lincoln County.  You have a House member who has sold his soul to the solar Mob.  He reports spending more than $60,000 out of his campaign fund in SIX MONTHS (not an election year, BTW).  What did he spend it on?  Dinners, travel, entertainment, and clothes.  Over $19,000 worth of clothes, to be precise.   That’s all from a job that pays roughly $13,000 per year.  (Show of hands:  How many people believe he really spent that $19,0000+ on clothes?  NOBODY has $19K hanging in their closet.)  And the good folks…
