NC-01: Davis (D) on top of Buckhout (R) in $$$$ race
The First Congressional District has been set up to be a spectacular GOP pickup. Incumbent Don Davis (D) surprisingly held off a GOP challenger in 2024. The polling and fundraising info about this race made public is making it look like we are in store for an encore in 2026.

It’s political malpractice by the idiots of the NRCC who’ve never understood how disliked carpetbaggers are in eastern NC and put their thumb on the primary scales. They should have backed a homegrown candidate like Buck who has a clean slate and didn’t trigger the antipathy of conservatives who won’t settle for a DC creature as their candidate even if it means another two years of Don Davis.
I’ve had my fill of carpetbaggers and scalawags.
I may or may not agree but i fully understand all the angst however. the primary results are what they are. I hate to think there might be Republican voters that refuse to vote or vote for a member of the Democrat Communist party. Too much at stake to be doing that. Ex. Congressional term limits are beginning to smolder. NC can ill afford a Dem Communist Party member and current senator like D Davis voting on that issue.
Buckhout was not my first choice in the primary, but she is the nominee and the only game in town to defeat leftwing Don Davis, who marched with BLM/ANTIFA in Greenville. Further, to keep Hakeem Jefferies or someone else under the thumb of Democrat Socialists of America (DSA) from becoming Speaker of the House., we simply have to elect a Republican in this seat. We should not forget that the chairman of the DSA has openly stated that “our goal is communism.”
Two years ago, the sour grapes of a primary loser led to votes for a left leaning “Libertarian” and that same left Libertarian is running again. We do not need similar sour grapes this election.
In addition to my above, i do not have any children,,,,,, that i know of. Quit laughing. SO, i will be voting for the freedom of all others children to include those that think primary pay back is justified in the upcoming Nov election.
And just what are republicans to do? Have the majority and enough R’s voted with dems on Eliz Warren’s sect 8 bill.

My spouse who is pretty apolitical but usually votes GOP had said just the other day, that the GOP with their majorities have failed to deliver on too many important matters, many of them stated as part of the Party platform. As hateful and scary as the socialists are, the GOP has but it’s own self to blame for the apathy of its erstwhile supporters. Which is why she’s unlikely to vote for Miss District of Columbia over Don Davis. As someone else has noted here before, leadership starts at the top. “We’re not as bad as the other guys” is a pathetic campaign message.

The long term stupidity and grift of the NCGOP is paying toxic dividends here. That guy from the other thread was right about Thomas Hill. If he was still running CD1, it’d be night and day different, but as the last competent chairman CD1 ever had, NCGOP ran him off for being too critical of their BS. A couple of Hill’s more effective county chairmen were also edged out of their positions for similar reasons.
Suppose we to ‘hold the ole nose’ once again. Well, if held since Jesse days we would all be dead from asphyxiation.
No diff than Whatley and Coop. Don’t believe anyone here ever dares vote Coop (mandy, coop destroyed NC during covid) HOWEVEVER, it’s NOTHING Whatley has done or will ever do to command a vote.
He’s a horrid candidate, as was Forrest and Robinson. Likely vote margin will be the same.

Don’t forget that Don Brown’s name was on the ballot in the same column as Michael Whatley. You readily devoured the slop that the NC Republican Party, the USSC, and Thom Tillis poured in the trough. If these party leaders had stayed out of the primary election and allowed the voters an equal opportunity to select the candidate to oppose Cooper, we would not be in this mess.
Don Brown has the experience, understood how Washington DC functions, and could have been a force to reckon with in the US Senate. Cooper only knows he has friends in DC, friends he can support. As a junior Senator, his vote carries the same weight as Ro Kannas, or Chuck Schumers.
I will vote for Whatley and hope that he can become what he claims to be, if elected. Cooper will be a disaster while supporting everything we are seeing in New York, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, and other liberal communist leaning states.
Yes. That means holding our nose one more time. This could have been avoided if the power brokers would have allowed Jim Womack or Hasan Harnett to do what they do best – Lead!
I can see why so few of the allotted delegates attend the state convention. Their votes do not matter and they know it!
