Tape of 911 call released in alleged swatting of conservative candidate
We reported earlier on an alleged swatting of Moore County Board of Education candidate Jim Pedersen. According to court records, charges have been filed and a disposition hearing is set for June 19 in Moore County District Court in Carthage.
Swatting involves someone placing a call to a 911 dispatcher claiming (falsely) that a potentially dangerous situation is going on in someone else’s residence. The idea is to get the police showing up in force, unexpectedly for the targeted home residents, with guns drawn. It wastes law enforcement resources and creates a very dangerous situation for lawmen and civilians alike.
Moore County emergency services officials have released the tape of the call that led to officers being dispatched to Pedersen’s home.
