McConnell: Planned Parenthood defund effort ‘exercise in futility’
Yep. That’s the POV of our,um, *fearless* leader in the latest POS-tico:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in an interview Friday he will back a plan to fund the government into December with no conditions, rejecting in his strongest terms yet calls from within his party to defund Planned Parenthood as part of a larger budget bill.
“It’s an exercise in futility,” the Kentucky Republican said of a strategy that would likely provoke a government shutdown. “I’m anxious to defund Planned Parenthood” but “the honest answer of that is that’s not going to happen until you have a president who has a similar view.”
“It’s better to be honest with the American people and say, ‘That won’t get it done,’” he added.
Let’s see. We got told ‘Sorry, we can’t do anything without a Republican Senate.’ They got a Republican Senate, and now we’re told ‘Sorry, we can’t do anything without a Republican president.’ If we are being honest, like Mr. McConnell says, I think we’re seeing that the GOPe is not interested in *petty* things like killing Obamacare, amnesty and funding for Planned Parenthood. They like handing out other people’s money, and controlling other people, as much as Democrats do. MORE:
The Senate leader’s bow to political reality further sets up an end-of-month clash with congressional conservatives that could potentially shutter the government over Planned Parenthood funding. Instead, he plans to pursue a two-pronged strategy: A short-term funding bill to buy time to negotiate a longer-term spending measure, and separately, a vote this month to federally ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
The GOP leader said in the interview on Friday that while he’d “love to be able to defund Planned Parenthood” after the release of secretly taped videos that allegedly show group officials discussing sales of fetal tissue, he’s got a math problem: A Democratic minority that will block any such effort and a president that would veto it even if it could pass the Senate.
Here’s a nifty idea. Why not ram legislation through defunding Planned Parenthood, and MAKE Big Barry and his crew publicly defend that pack of baby-parts brokers and what they did on those videos?
“Senate Democrats have refused to let us pass any of the 12 appropriations bills,” McConnell said. “What we’re going to do is fund the government into the end of the year and it will obviously have to be something that could get a presidential signature. So there’s no way you can avoid talking to each other about how to get there.”
The minority Democrats won’t let you ??? Why not run over them like they did you for oh-so-many years? You’ve got the mandate. We gave it to you. And here you are squandering it.
We put this crew in charge to stop Obama. Yet, he’s gotten everything he’s ever wanted. Obamacare. Amnesty. The Iran deal. The TPP trade deal.
Our *representatives* are not getting the job done. We can sit around and gripe about this to each other — in person and on the internet — or we can actually do something about it. We’ve got primaries coming up. I see Paul Wright has stepped out there against Burr. Renee Ellmers and Virginia Foxx have credible primary opponents. There are six more opportunities out there. (Mark Meadows and Walter Jones are doing just fine.)
Of course, if you put your name out there, you will be at a financial disadvantage. But ask congressman David Brat how that can work out.
There is a lot of anger out there. It has Donald Trump at the top of the presidential heap. People are starving for leaders who will not lie to them — who will actually do what they say they are going to do.
Other than Meadows and Jones, our Republicans in our congressional delegation are failing us. Every single one of those sell-outs needs a primary challenger. The people need a choice. Find challengers, get them signed up, and bust your butts to get them across the finish line.
That’s how you save this country. If you let these people go back unopposed or overwhelmingly reelected — in light of their past performance — you’ve basically signed a DNR order for this great country.
Mitch McConnell, shut the government down until January 30th! I would love to see the “beltway bureaucrats” learn how it is to not have a pay check for several months!
The rest of us will get along just fine!
Amen & Amen!
what do we lose if Burr loses to a Dem? REALLY?
what does this State and this Country lose if Burr retires to his lair””?
what do we gain?
good riddance!
Richard Burr stopped answering to his Party a long time ago and here are a few things Republican voters should remember on Primary Day next March….
1. He and his buddy Bob Corker turned the Constitution on it’s head so that the Senate has to get votes to DENY the Iranian nuclear deal rather than follow the Constitutional requirement to APPROVE the deal by a 2/3 Majority.
2. Richard Burr said that defunding Obamacare was the dumbest thing he’d ever heard of.
3. Richard Burr routinely works to undermine the 4th Amendment of the Constitution, as Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
4. Richard Burr has contributed to the corruption of the Judiciary and as a result, our Marriage laws are overturned as is our State sovereignty under the 10th Amendment.
5. His constituent service is just as bad as Kay Hagan’s was, and that says something. As an example, he has just not been there for the Veteran community, some of whose members are severely disabled and have some very acute needs. In North Carolina with it’s huge veteran population, that’s inexcusable.
Changing the subject ever so slightly, when all the other low information Republican voters were falling all over themselves to vote for Pat McCrory back in the 2012 Primary, I voted for Paul Wright for Governor because I knew what he was and what Pat McCrory wasn’t. I may be alone, but I intend to obtain a voter list and call every GOP voter in my County for Paul Wright because Richard Burr needs to be FIRED!
We now have a choice. Burr’s primary is our referendum on McConnell and his fecklessness. Conservatives need to vote against McConnell by voting against his lap puppy Burr and for Paul Wright. There is an article up on that race over at Red State:
