Cooper stomping Whatley in the polls AND the money race
Oh, the hits just keep coming.
Now that it’s becoming clearer that we’re going to get senator Roy Cooper shoved down our throats, the finger-pointing has begun. Thom Tillis is trying to sell the spin that Trump scared North Carolina’s *purple* electorate away from Whatley. There will be attempts to blame Whatley’s impending crash on Trump.
Granted, Trump will earn some blame. It wasn’t his agenda. It’s the fact that he and his team shoved a really weak candidate with no love for the MAGA movement that sent Trump back to DC down our throats. They also did their best to chase away potential primary competitors who could have helped us ensure we truly had the best choice in the race.
There are nearly two dozen major polls out there showing Cooper smacking Whatley. Not a single one showing a Whatley lead. Not a one.
To complement the bad polling news, the DC media has reports on fundraising in the US Senate race:
In North Carolina, former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper continues to far outraise Republican Michael Whatley, growing a massive cash disparity in one of the most closely watched Senate races this year.
Cooper raised $13.8 million to Whatley’s $5 million in the first quarter of the year, according to disclosures filed with the Federal Election Commission. That encompasses both the run-up to and aftermath of their effectively uncontested primaries in early March.
Cooper entered the second quarter with $18.5 million in cash on hand, while Whatley reported having more than $2.5 million in the bank.
North Carolina is a top target for Democrats. Cooper, the swing state’s most recent governor, draws on his broad name ID to pull in a sizable fundraising haul. Most polling shows him with a double-digit lead over Whatley.
National Republicans are planning to give Whatley, the former RNC chair, a major boost. Senate Leadership Fund has pledged $71 million to the Senate race.
WHO in their right mind is going to invest $71 million in a campaign with these kind of poll numbers? If the numbers don’t dramatically improve in the next few months, I doubt you’ll see DIME ONE of that money.
This was so winnable. But it’s being screwed up royally by allegedly *smart* people in DC and Raleigh.
