Buckhout, BUSTED.

Thanks to the online gambling craze sweeping the country, sites like Kalshi are now an integral part of our culture.

Kalshi goes out of its way to claim it is NOT GAMBLING.  You aren’t betting, but TRADING. In fact, their marketing tells us we are *trading on the future*.  You can lay down money on just about anything: sporting events, election outcomes, or what happens next on your favorite reality show.  Subjects that you can *invest* in are called *markets.*

Some hiccups have appeared.  The guy who runs President Trump’s teleprompter won big money on Kalshi predicting what the president would say in upcoming speeches.

The news today featured two political *celebrities* running afoul of Kalshi’s rules and regulations.  Former congressman (and two-legged, walking, talking scandal) George Santos got banned for life from Kalshi. 

We also learned that Laurie Buckhout, the GOP nominee in NC’s 1st congressional district, got called on the carpet for her activities on Kalshi.  Here are the details:

[…] Kalshi announced the disciplinary action against Republican Laurie Buckhout on Monday, part of a national investigation that found multiple politicians were betting on races they were involved in, violating Kalshi’s rules against trading on insider information.

[…] Buckhout told WRAL she was betting on herself to win, unaware that doing so violated Kalshi’s policies. “I bet on myself. Literally,” she said in a written statement. “It was a dumb mistake, and as soon as I learned there was an issue, I worked to make it right. Safe to say my career as a Kalshi trader was short-lived.” […]

Unaware?   You can’t trade stocks based on insider information.  You have the inside track on Yourself and what-you-do.  Most people don’t know what you‘re going to do next. (THAT is inside information.)

Betting on a sporting event you’re coaching or playing in can be considered unethical or – at the very least – problematic.  Taking action to make sure you or someone else wins money on the event you’re playing or coaching in can be considered criminal. (*Point-shaving* ???)

We like to be helpful.  So, here’s a visual aid to help Laurie and any other future Kalshi users are *aware* of Kalshi’s rules:

Here’s a message for the DC folks *handling* Laurie’s campaign — telling her what to say and do every minute and every day.  (You guys and gals forced her on us. )

Laurie seems to be *unaware* of a lot of obvious stuff.  For the sake of the congressional district, our state, and our nation, get her up-to-speed.
