ConnectNC: “so wide-open …. so vaguely-written it creates endless possibilities”
I talked with a high-powered source from Jones Street about why Republicans there — suposedly so frugal and conservative — were pushing the ConnectNC bond issue. Here was the source’s take:
”It is so wide-open. The way that thing is written you can do just about anything you want with that money. And the voters gave you permission to do so.”
My source expressed concern that one’s level of support for ConnectNC is being tied to a perception of how strong your support for Governor McCrory is:
“What’s funny about that? Our Republican governor and his closest allies are pushing this issue. The people who are most likely to vote for Roy Cooper for governor are the ones most excited about this thing passing. There is a serious disconnect here.”
Reading the information in the Connect NC Bond flyers makes it apparent that this is not a list of necessary items. The supporters list posted on the website reads like a who’s who of special interests in NC, combined with politicians desperate to buy reelection.

A LOT of money is being spent to promote this bond! Follow the money!

Why do they need a 3 million dollar advertising budget for the bond, if the bond was so great it would sell itself ??!!!
Some things just make you go hmmm
I am very upset w/Gov. McCrory. He paid off the debt (?) and had $400 Million of surplus. yeah. Now he gets serious. Let’s saddle our grandkids w/ 3Billion. What a guy…Ken
Just another pay off to special interests, sham on you Pat!!!!
If this is the way you are planning on continuing as Governor, then my vote is going elsewhere.
Not happy in Pamlico County.
We do not need another bond issue. Its all abut rewarding special interest. Just vote NO.
Well hell. Governor McCrory, Lt. Governor Forest, Ag Commissioner Troxler, and Senator Cook just lost my vote.
Bonds are a,con job, since a TAX ISNT POPULAR, THE POLITICIANS SAY WE WILL PASS A.BOND, THE PEOPLE PASS IT, AND YOUR SALES TAX GOES UP 1/4, 1/2 cent….
It’s a TAX… CREATIVE FINANCING BY THE DEVELOPERS… INSTEAD OF USING THEIR tens to millions to 100’s of millions own PERSONEL money, to take a risk with their cash…THEY TAKE THE RISK WITH OUR MONEY,BY RAISING A SALES TAX
What a waste of tax payer money. The United States of the Connected. Shame on the Governor and his cronies. Don’t ask the people what they want…just shove it down their throats as a bond vote that 95 percent of the people don’t understand. I am embarrassed to say that I voted for Pat. He is just as crooked as the woman he replaced.
