#NC11: Meadows joins Jones in Boehner’s ”dog house”
It’s no secret there’s no love between the speaker and Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC). Jones voted against Boehner for renomination as speaker. He’s also bucked leadership on a number of key votes. He’s been stripped of any key committee assignments. The boys in DC even hooked Jones up with a serious primary challenger in 2014.
Well, it looks like Mark Meadows (R-NC), over in the 11th district out west, is getting a taste of the Jones treatment:
The House Republican crackdown has reached a new level of severity.
House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz has stripped North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows of his subcommittee chairmanship, just days after he defied leadership on the House floor by voting against a party-line procedural motion.“Sometimes the coach needs to make a change on the field,” Chaffetz (R-Utah) told POLITICO Saturday. “He’s still a valuable contributor, and I really like Mark Meadows, he’s a good person. But I need to make a change.”
Losing a subcommittee chairmanship midway through a congressional session is among the most serious punishments thus far in Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) majority. Boehner and his leadership team have grown frustrated with Republicans who vote against the procedural “rule” motion. Those votes — which allow the Republican leadership to bring a bill up for debate and a vote — typically fall along party lines. But a group of conservatives has voted against the measures, mostly in protest of Boehner’s leadership. Republican leadership sees the move as unacceptable —akin to ceding power to Democrats.[…]
For the record, Chaffetz is a huge disappointment. He came to DC with all kinds of Tea Party credibility. Now, he’s apparently sold his soul for 30 pieces of silver and a committee chairmanship. What exactly did Meadows DO to earn this kind of treatment?:
On June 11, 34 Republicans voted against the rule that allowed for consideration of President Barack Obama’s request for fast-track authority to negotiate the largest trade deal in history. Conservatives said Boehner and GOP leaders were working too closely with Democrats, and ignoring Republicans. Boehner said he has worked closely with conservatives. In a closed meeting this week, the speaker told rank-and-file Republicans that he was angry that conservatives were voting against the motions. The GOP leadership has told lawmakers that there will be ramifications for voting against such resolutions.
Meadows was one of the 34 lawmakers who voted against the motion. Chaffetz said there were a “variety of fact
ors” that led to him losing his chairmanship of the Government Operations subcommittee.
“I’m just going to leave it at that,” he said, when asked about the other factors. “There were a variety of factors, but I did what I felt was in the best interest of the oversight committee.”
Chaffetz said he this was his decision, not the Republican leadership’s.[…]

So, Meadows is being punished for refusing to vote FOR something with details that are top secret and reportedly give Obama all kinds of new powers that can’t be explained to the voting public? Incredible.
The last time
I checked, these people were sent to DC to represent the folks back home — not Boehner and McCarthy.
So, now we have TWO members of Congress from the Tar Heel State with cojones. Do everything you can to help Mark Meadows (as long as he stays strong). Money. Votes. Encouraging friends and family in his district to vote for him.
We are aware that congressman Meadows is a fan and regular reader of this site. We encourage him to stay strong and not crawl back to them groveling. We welcome him to the rebellion — the fight to reestablish conservatism and the principles of limited government as the guiding force behind our society, our nation, and its government.
I know that Walter Jones has cajones but thrilled that Mark Meadows is now on board and not giving in to the devil. My own rep Virginnia Foxx has sold her soul for the almighty leadership position. I would give my eye teeth if they had the balls to really clean up the cesspool in DC and start repealing unconstitutional laws. Wishful thinking!!!
At least you are blessed to have a real conservative challenging Foxx. I met her at the State Convention and she’s great, Those of us stuck in RINO districts (Pittenger, McHenry, Walker, and Holding) so far aren’t that lucky.

I known Mark Meadows before his election to Congress. He is one of the most stand up gentleman I know. He always stood for principles over politics. What right for the people. When you do the right thing, you can live with internal peace. I know this personally. Proud to call him friend. Blessings Mark.

The war between the Obama Republicans and the real Republicans is as serious, or perhaps more so, than between Republicans and Democrats. We only have two real Republicans in our Congressional delegation. Defeating the other 11 should be a mission for all conservatives in 2016.
Boehner and McConnell fight hard for Obama’s policies instead of fighting against them, and this is just the latest example. It is appalling when Republican Congressmen are punished for voting against an Obama policy, but then George Stephanopolous recently called McConnell ”President Obama’s point man in the Senate” and it is clear than Boehner is playing the same role in the House.
They told us it would be different if we gave them a majority but it is not. In fact, the establishment’s brownnosing of Obama may be worse. As former governor Rick Perry said recently ”a Congressional majority is a terrible thing to waste”.
Conservatives need to work hard in primaries to change things, and we need to start withholding votes in the General election when the choice is an Obama Democrat or an Obama Republican. In that situation, we should stand with ”none of the above” by leaving that race blank. We need to find more like Dave Brat to get rid of more Eric Cantors.
We also need to start thinking outside the box. Confronted with nominees of both parties who are Obama enablers, we should think about running conservatives as Unaffiliated candidates. We do not need to and should not reregister as Unaffiliated, but we should look out for places where we can advance the conservative cause by running Unaffiliated candidates. In 1970, New York had a liberal Republican incumbent US Senator, Charles Goodell, and the Democrat challenger was also a liberal. Conservative voters got behind Jim Buckley running on the Conservative Party ticket and beat both of them. In addition to looking for more Dave Brats, we also need to start looking for more Jim Buckleys.
I met Mark Meadows at a Civitas event. We thanked him over and over for all his principled votes and standing strong against all the DC powers that be. He said it was his pleasure. We also expressed our dissatisfaction with the fact that our Rep. David Rouzer has never held townhalls in the NC 7 district. Meadows told us he would be happy to come to our district and speak anytime. Now, that’s leadership. If Rouzer doesn’t come through in NC7 this August after repeated attempts, we may hold our own townhall and invite Meadows. Now that could be fun. I would love to raise some money and support for Meadows all over this state.
I have heard that Meadows would be interested in running for the US Senate seat if that worthless seat warmer Tricky Dick Burr would just retire like everyone thought he would before McConnell convinced him to run again. Meadows would make such a greater Senator while Burr is an embarrassment. But I have heard that Meadows would not primary Burr.
Representative Meadows, your membership in the Freedom Caucus means far more to me than your chairmanship ever did.
Chairmanships appear to be given as bribes/rewards for being obedient Boehner lapdogs and toeing the RINO line.
I’ve lived on this planet for 64 years, and you are, by far, the best Representative I’ve ever had.

So now we have a second NC GOP congressman stabbed in the back by Boehner and the Republican/Obama Establishment. Where are our new state chairman and vice-chairman? Where are the rest of our NC GOP delegation? Are they not going to come to the defense of one of our own? Are we witnessing the death of our party before our very eyes?
I say we need a state GOP resolution condemning Boehner in the strongest terms and asking contributors not to give money to NRCC.
By all means, the State Party needs to step up to the plate on this one! Where are our new chairman and vice-chairman? Have they already been co-opted by the Boehner/Obama Republicans in Washington and Raleigh. Was our state convention a waste of time?

Yes, Mark got spanked for not bending over for Obama Butt Kisser John Boehner, but he had the courage to take that first step. He’s a hero in the House like Trey Gowdy and Louie Gohmert.
We also have a few voices of courage in the Senate, in Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Mike Lee. Any one of them would be a great replacement for that spineless Mitch McConnell (another Obama butt kisser).
I know God will not forsake this nation, as long as we have heroes like Mark Meadows among us!
