NC-04: Monkey Business Report, campaign finance edition
Sue Googe is seeking to become the sacrificial lamb GOP nominee against incumbent David Price in this overwhelmingly Democrat district.
Though, anything is possible. Fred Heineman got Price in 1994.
Googe seems like a fantastic person with a great background. But her campaign finance report is raising some troubling questions:
- Joe Requested. Yes, that is the name of an alleged New York-based donor of $500 to the Googe campaign listed on said campaign’s finance disclosure report. Even more troubling? “Mr. Requested” appears to work for a Chinese corporation with offices in the United States.
- Richard Yang. This person appears to be violating the limits for individual donations to candidates. The Googe campaign report shows he donated $15,000 on December 8. There is no employer or occupation information provided, but we found a likely suspect. His LinkedIn profile identifies him as (1) Chairman of Big River Fish Corporation in Waxhaw, NC and (2) an adviser to Lt. Gov. Dan Forest on Chinese affairs.. Big River’s web site appears to indicate it also has business ties to China.
- Donor Jiong Huang is identified as “sales manager” for Enteprex International Corporation. The firm’s website has a logo featuring the Chinese and
American flags and has contact information for offices in Shanghai. According to the campaign’s records, he gave $2,700 to the Googe campaign on December 29. - Donors Daoshan Sun, Ng-Tse Ngan Sun, Vivian Wan, Jian Jin, HaiHui Huang, Tracy Han, and Richard Yang have no employer or occupation data listed on the campaign report.
- The Googe report indicates a $1,000 contribution from Jianming Yang of Canton, Massachusetts. This person is identified as “president” of “Boston Building Material.” (A Google search did not return (1) a person by that name connected to Canton or that company, or (2) a company by that name in Canton, Massachusetts.)
I think she’s running for the wrong office, she fits much better in a leadership role with Tim Moore, Lewis, Saine, Dollar, and Hastings. Surly we are all wrong about campaign spending it’s not pay to play its Money Laundering.

First, how is it false? Our report is totally based on the report your campaign filed with the FEC. Second, why can’t YOU explain it? Why are we waiting for a “team”?
Is there someone actually named “Joe Requested”? It’s well-known you have to supply employer and occupation data on your reports. You had those lines blank on several donors. Also, several of your donors have ties to Chinese-owned corporations. There are laws and regulations about foreign money in American elections.
As a first generation Chinese immigrant running for Congress, it’s not surprising that I’ve received support from the Chinese community around the country.
When I launched my campaign, a number of Chinese American newspapers and websites published stories promoting my candidacy. As a result, we received a number of donations from the Chinese community across the country.
Some of the donations we received did include their employer or occupation information. This is not uncommon for any campaign. The FEC requires that we REQUEST that information from these donors via a form letter through the mail and record on the FEC filing that the information has been requested.
The campaign treasurer followed that process which is required by the FEC. In addition, my website and donation envelopes all display the guidelines and requirements to collect employer and occupation information. In addition, we also follow the requirements that donors be US citizens or green card holders.
The $15,000 was simply a data entry error in the FEC’s online reporting software. The treasurer simply added an extra zero. The correct amount is $1,500. This is in the process of being amended.
As a Chinese immigrant and conservative Republican running for Congress, in a heavily democratic district, reaching out to minority communities is going to be extremely important. This is one of the strengths of our campaign.
Clerical errors happen, this one is being corrected. I hope to have the opportunity to get know each of you on the campaign trail. We must defeat David Price and it’s going to take a “New Voice” to do that.
What about your donor IDed as “Joe Requested”? Has that been confirmed to be the donor’s correct name?
“Joe requested” is Zhou Xu, own an architect firm in New York, a personal friend of mine. His company is “Times Buildings Engineering Services”.

Vivan Wan, local based cpa firm, Vivan Wan CPA. PA. as owner or president. Met her once about 8 years ago. she read news about me and donated.
Ng-Tse Ng Sun, a medical equipment dealer according to her, I don’t know her in person, she read news about me and donated.
Tracy Han, owner import and export company in Califonia. I don’t know her in person, she read news about me and donated.
Richard Yang, Charlotte based business owner, personal friend of mine, donated $1500, NOT $15000, treasurer’s mistake.
Jiong Huang, I don’t know him in person, read news about me and donated.
Jianming Yang, Met twice, I will not surprise if he doesn’t own a web site for his new business. A kitchen cabinet dealer relocating to NC as far as I know.

I will answer any question on my FEC report. I pointed out all above mistakes to my team as soon as I saw it online early this month. They are working to correct it.
