Richard Burr, a Ted Cruz ally? (*Um, Riiiiiiiiiight.*)
That’s what the DC establishment’s steno pool over at The Politico would have us believe:
[…] Seven of the 20 Republicans who voted against Cruz are up for reelection in two years, including Sens. Dan Coats of Indiana, Mark Kirk of Illinois, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Lisa Murkowksi of Alaska. And 16 Republicans who are running again, such as Richard Burr of North Carolina and Rob Portman of Ohio, joined the Texas freshman, a sign that many are well aware of ammunition that could be used against them in a GOP primary.
In an interview Monday, Cruz was unapologetic, pointing out that “just about every senator up for reelection in 2016” voted with him, saying he would battle his party’s leadership in February if it does not take a firmer line when Homeland Security Department funding lapses.[…]
North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr was highly critical of Cruz’s strategy in the government shutdown fight last year, calling it the “dumbest idea” to try to defund Obamacare in a funding bill knowing that Obama would simply veto it. But this time, Burr was on board with Cruz’s attempts to derail the immigration funding in the must-pass spending measure, who ultimately voted for final passage of the spending deal.
“It was real simple: It was saying the president didn’t have the constitutional authority to do what he did,” said Burr, who is up for reelection in 2016 and could face a primary challenge. “I agree with [Cruz].”[…]
Do not fall for this. This is a man who hears the footsteps and smells the smoke from the lynch mob’s torches. The “dumbest idea” quote more accurately reflects the mind-set of our senior senator.
It might be nice to ask Burr: “If you thought what BarryO did was unconstitutional, WHY THEN did you vote for cloture and for final passage on the CRomnibus?” If Tricky Dick Burr is into voting to pass stuff that he knows to be unconstitutional, MAYBE it is time for him to come home.

They don’t call him Tricky DIck for nothing. Burr votes on both sides of controversial issues so he can try to be all things to all people. He voted for the bill before he voted against it. The problem for such sleazy politicians is that voters are starting to see through that scam.

I once was an avid supporter of Burr. Unfortunately, he got too RINO a couple of years ago after his second election as Senator. Having called the NCGOP and being told what a poor job he was doing, I then became an independent, . He has only gone downhill since then. I occasionally write him but have zero trust in him. In my opinion, he is not a lot better than Hagen (at least with Hagen the voters knew without a doubt how she would vote). We got rid of the Democrat, now is the time to get rid of Burr. He is a snake…vote him out!!!

No need to become an independent, especially over one particular undocumented Democrat claiming to be a Republican. To run a conservative, the only real way to do it at present is through the Republican Party, so we need the troops in place there, not off the field. Maybe some day there will be an alternative mechanism, but there is not one now.
That said, I am encouraged that the Senate Conservatives Fund is right now surveying its NC members for a 2016 primary challenge to Burr. I tend to be suspicious of the surveys that end up asking to send in money. This was does not, so its purpose is what it says it is. It tests issues to use against Burr in a primary, and asks an open ended question about candidates to challenge Burr. It does ask if you would be willing to support a challenger to Burr, once one emerges.
If you are not already a member of the Senate Conservatives Fund, this is a very solid organization, and conservatives can join at its website, http://www.senateconservatives.com . It was founded by SC Senator Jim DeMint and is now run by Ken Cuccinelli, former Virginia Attorney General, both very very solid conservatives, who are not afraid of taking on the establishment. SCF is the conservative answer to the slimy establishment hacks at NRSC.
Burr’s financial involvement in the really nasty dirty tricks the establishment used in the Mississippi Senate primary this year against the conservative frontrunner, I suspect, has made him a particular target of the SCF. That was one of the issue questions on the survey.
Senator Burr is no conservative the only way he got re-elected in 2000 was to get the backing of the Tea Party. He doesn’t have auto-reply on his emails and you rarely get a response from any emails,letters or faxes that you send to him about your concerns with the government. If you do it, it is at least 3 months after the fact. With big pharma and syngenta in our state our elected officials are being paid off to do their bidding not the citizens that it is hurting. I think it is time to become unaffiliated and hope that many will join the new revolution and pull away from both the established parties.
When I bother thinking about Burr and wondering “how establishment is he?”…the thing that most often comes to mind is of back when Rand Paul was doing his filibuster thing, helped along by Cruz and Lee… and Burr was out having dinner with (among others) Lindsay Graham, John McCain, and President Obama.
They dont usually have to knock you over the head with a hint. 🙂

Greg Brannon, not in this life time He is a phony and a liar. We don’t need people like him running for office. There are other conservatives out there that you could put up against Burr if you wish but not the flawed Brannon.

He has a genuine love and compassion for people and is willing to fight for what is most important to us as Americans…our freedom. One other big reason to primary Burr is his involvement in the Shameful Seven, the seven US Senators led by Mitch McConnell who financed one of the worst dirty tricks in recent US Senate primary history, the lying race-baiting attacks on conservative front-runner Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi US Senate primary. After what he did in Mississippi, I am ashamed that I supported Burr in his last two elections. I will not make that mistake again. Lets eviscerate Tricky Dick Burr in the primary. Burr has proven himself in Mississippi as a bitter enemy of conservatives.
