What Amendment One ACTUALLY says

The gay rights movement, the professional LEFT, and their allies in the mainstream media (like our local Nobel Prize-winning newspaper) have moved into Moore County to continue — trying — to tie this May’s Amendment One vote to the old Jim Crow laws.

Take a moment to block out all of the hysterical rhetoric about “sitting at the back of the bus”  and “no seat at the lunch counter.” Let’s look at EXACTLY what Amendment One says:

If approved, the proposed measure would amend Article 14 of the North Carolina Constitution by adding a new section:

Sec. 6. Marriage.Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts.

Okay. So WHAT is so shocking about THAT?   The Left is upset because it thwarts their ambitions.  They thrive off of leftist judges creating new “rights” and shoving those legal opinions on the rest of us. ( That’s how we got legal abortion.)  If this amendment passes, it makes it really hard for a creative judge to give leftists what they want.

From all appearances, it does not prevent two gay men signing a contract agreeing to leave each other their life’s possessions upon death.  It does not appear to limit a lesbian’s ability to visit her “friend” in the hospital.  Sign a contract, and it’s all kosher.  This amendment respects religious beliefs and offers some concessions to those who don’t get into the church thing.

After examining the amendment’s text, the opposition to it appears to be more of an attack on The Church.  Leftists are trying to remove  the church’s influence in the “creation” of families.  

Look at the reaction of leftists when someone cites their religious beliefs in opposing gay marriage. Leftists will sneer at this person and make some comment to the effect of: “Get out of the dark ages, and come into the 21st century.”

Tolerance for ME, but NOT for thee. 

The Left is eager to talk about this amendment.  They’ll talk about ANYTHING that takes our focus OFF of Bev, Barry and their malpractice in managing our governments.
