What about Whatley? (Budd raises money against Cooper, ignores Cooper’s GOP opponent)

I’ve heard of senators from the same party helping each other out when one is up for reelection and the other is not.  But this one’s a wee bit different.

This ( Page 1  | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 ) is an image of a four-page fundraising mailer currently being circulated by Ted Budd’s reelection team.  Granted, fundraising is a year-round, non-stop thing in big-time politics.  But there are a few things that caught our eye regarding this mailer:

  • You might get the impression from the mailer that senator Budd thinks he’s running against Roy Cooper.  It’s 2026 and Budd does not go before the voters again until 2028.  Cooper is on the ballot for 2026, and he’s Mike Whatley‘s problem.
  • Why is there no mention whatsoever of the GOP nominee against Cooper in 2026?  If Ted Budd is seriously trying to raise money against Cooper and help Whatley, you would think he’d have some kind words to share about Mike Whatley.  Sadly, there’s not one to be found.  Not even a mention of Whatley’s name. 
  • Isn’t this diverting money away from where it’s really needed?  It looks like Cooper is beating the pants off Whatley in the polls and in the dash-for-cash.  Whatley really needs money.  Why is Ted Budd out there right now talking about Whatley’s opponent and trying to scoop some up for himself ?

Seriously.  The Republican National Committee, The Trump political team, Budd and the rest of the NCGOPe shoved Whatley down our throats during what should have been the primary season.  We were told Whatley was the be-all, end-all top candidate to take on and take down Cooper.  He was a fundraising Goliath, we were told.

But here we are.  Whatley is getting killed, and all of those aforementioned folks are off looking after themselves elsewhere.

We’re seeing a lot of Republican activists out in the blogosphere bashing Cooper.  But there’s little mention of Whatley.  Cooper is bad — BAD! — but what are we to replace him with?  We’ve been told and told that Whatley has a name ID issue.  Money could help fix that.  SO, why divert money away from that effort and over to Budd? 

Some of these so-called party leaders need to be held accountable for fixing the primary and forcing this wet noodle of a candidate on us. Their screw-up very well could give Chuck Schumer one more soldier in the war to destroy this country.
