#NCSEN: Speaker Thom & Lobbyist LOVE
Some time back, we wrote about the high levels of affection Thom Tillis’ legislative staff was showing some Jones Street lobbyists. Now, it appears some lobbyists are showing Speaker Thom a little bit different kind of love.
Word broke yesterday that a gaggle of Raleigh lobbyists was hosting a fundraiser for the Speaker’s US Senate run. Now, word comes from our nation’s capital of another feeding from the special-interest trough:
A Washington, D.C., fundraiser scheduled for this week for North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis, a Republican candidate for Senate, will feature a few big GOP names, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., are also slated to attend, according to an updated invitation sent out Monday and obtained by the Washington Examiner.
Thursday’s breakfast event will be at the home of Geoffrey Gray, a lobbyist who has represented Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, among additional interests in banking, financial and other sectors. The event is $500 to $1,000 per head and up to $2,500 for political action committees.
McConnell’s political action committee has donated to Tillis’ campaign, but the appearance at the fundraiser of the Senate’s top Republican is an important, visible stamp of approval for Tillis’ candidacy. McConnell’s colleague, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., endorsed another Republican in the North Carolina Senate primary, physician Greg Brannon. Still, Tillis, the favored candidate of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, holds a considerable fundraising advantage. […]
Way to go GOP, pick THE guy with the most baggage and the most sleaze.
And then expect us to fall behind him. Tholl Road Thillis is going to spend a lot of money for the privilege of losing.
Tilli$ is nothing but a prostitute for the special interests. If he is nominated, that guarantees Hagan another term. Tilli$ does not represent Repubican principles or values any more than Hagan does. There is not a dimes worth of difference between the two.
Mitch McConnell is just as bad, and fortunately he has a strong conservative primary challenger, Matt Bevin. McConnell works with Harry Reid as much as against him. McConnell runs up the white flag very quickly in any dispute. He is totally spineless. No wonder he backs a scoundrel like Tilli$.

Brannon is spot on. I, too, am sick of all the counterfeit conservatives that come out of the woodwork, who have no allegiance to principle and just try to coop the term to pull the wool over voters eyes.
In his last and unsuccessful race for the US Senate, ultra liberal Democrat George McGovern even tried to call himself a conservative. People like Rove and Tilli$ are just as phony and are no more conservative than McGovern was. Their abuse of the term conservative shows that people like Rove and his errand boy Tilli$ are just fundamentally dishonest. They are liars of the same ilk as Obama.
When it comes to Obamacare, we need to remember that when McCrory waffled on stopping Obamacare, Tilli$ immediately waffled, too. It was only Berger and the Senate sticking to their guns that forced the issue of North Carolina not taking part in Obamacare through our state government. On issue after issue, it was Berger and the Senate who pushed conservative issues, while liberal Thom Tilli$ in the House tried to play to the special interests by stopping or watering down conservative proposals. Thom Tilli$ plays politics the corrupt and liberal way he was taught by his poliical godfathers, Jim Black and RIchard Morgan.
(This post was for the #NCSEN Brannon thread, but somehow ended up here)
