Robbins takes ANOTHER hit from the state. Mayor prepping for political promotion.
We’ve done some past reporting on the financial mess in Robbins. Click here to catch up.
The state auditor delivered a scathing audit of the town government’s cash management. Little to no documentation for the town’s check-writing. No audits for four years.
Moore County is hesitant to give financial aid to the town’s fire department, thanks to the mess. From what we hear, the towns’ records are so bad you can’t confidently determine how much money the town has or the overall state of its finances.
The state’s Local Government Commission – which oversees government borrowing for capital projects – has reprimanded Robbins.
Now, the state treasurer is withholding six figures worth of state sales tax revenue normally slated for Robbins.
The city of Rocky Mount is also facing a financial crisis. Its mayor backed out of a congressional run to stay and work on fixing the city’s mess. Robbins mayor Cameron Dockery knew about the financial problems and the state audit at least six months before the May election. (According to the state auditor’s initial report, the town met with the state auditor about its financial problems in October 2025.)
Yet, Dockery stayed on the ballot and won a seat on the county board of commissioners. His electoral success was greatly assisted – in no small part – by state Rep. Neal Jackson and county commissioner Tom Adams who touted Dockery as some sort of great financial manager.
The town’s financial troubles and the auditor’s involvement did not go public until after the March election. The Pilot did its part to downplay the affair.
(* Move along. Nothing to see here, of course.* )
Cameron Dockery will be leaving town government at the end of the year to go serve at the county level. Other folks will be left behind to deal with the mess that was made during the Dockery era in Robbins.
Townspeople tell us Robbins officials are tight-lipped about the state of the town’s financials. Sources tell us the town has significantly less money on hand than what has been publicly reported.
When did Tom Adams and Neal Jackson first learn of the trouble in Robbins? Did they purposely deceive voters countywide about Dockery’s experience in Robbins?
How wise is it to promote a guy to the county level who presided over such a screw-up at the municipal level?
If Dockery had any shame, he’d forgo the county commissioner election and stay to help fix the mess in town. Neal Jackson and Tom Adams need to pay some kind of price for their role in this apparent skullduggery.
