#ncpol: Thilli$$$ still slugging it out for AMNESTY
If ONLY he fought this hard for ObamaCare repeal. (You know, like he promised when he ran against Kay Hagan.)
Once again, McClatchy is fawning over Thom Tillis’s leadership on immigration reform — this time branding his efforts “conservative”:
Conservative lawmakers led by Thom Tillis are crafting a bill they call the conservative Dream Act that would provide a path to permanent residency to people brought here illegally as children, offering President Donald Trump an escape hatch on one of his most vexing immigration challenges.
The legislation creates an avenue for Trump to both fulfill a campaign promise to end an Obama-era program known as DACA while yielding to what appears to be his personal desire to let these immigrants remain in the country.[…]
First, Tillis “conservative”? This man is currently rocking a 37% conservative ranking — making him the most liberal Republican in the North Carolina delegation.
Second, if you promise not to punish someone for breaking the law, that is AMNESTY (i.e., “tax amnesty”).
MORE:
[…] “Who cares about DACA if there’s a Dream Act,” said a Republican involved with the policy negotiations and aware of Tillis’ plan.
Trump has wrestled with the politics versus the personal on this issue since Inauguration Day, recognizing that whatever he decides to do about the roughly 800,000 young immigrants known as Dreamers will anger many and shape his legacy.
These people don’t want the wall. And they want the US Chamber checks to keep flowing. (*SIGH*)
[…] The Tillis plan makes killing the deferred action program much more politically palatable. Republicans involved in the policy negotiations said Trump can claim a win with both his base for ending the program and the young people, for whom he promised to try to “work something out.”
Details are still being worked out, but the Tillis plan would be a companion proposal to a House bill introduced by Miami Republican Carlos Curbelo.
Like Curbelo’s bill, the Tillis plan would offer an eventual path to U.S. citizenship for immigrants who entered illegally before Jan. 1, 2012, and were 16 years old or younger.
The proposal would grant high school graduates without a serious criminal record conditional immigration status for a five-year period. During that time, if they earn a higher-education degree, serve in the military or stay employed, they could apply for permanent residency and, eventually, citizenship.
About 2.5 million Dreamers would be eligible.
[…]A spokesman for Tillis, Daniel Keylin, confirmed that the North Carolina Senators is working with Republican colleagues on “fair, but rigorous” legislation that will address “the long-term uncertainty facing undocumented minors.”[…]
What I don’t understand is in a country of about 300 million people how only 800,000 are such a “key” part of the economy. Part of the story online has a lot of big companies strongly advocating for them as if they are the most important employees they have….makes you wonder why they are not advocating so hard for their citizen employees anywhere near as heavily.
Takes both houses and the President to make law. That is basic civics which this dunce doesn’t understand. The voters have rejected amnesty even when the dems had both houses and the presidency. Tillis is a certified idiot.
Tilli$ is behaving more like he is Senator from Mexico than Senator from North Carolina. We need to dump this Obama Republican in the primary whatever he runs for next. This is pure amnesty and trying to legitimize an illegal program of Obama’s.
#NeverTillis
Let’s see.
Texas’ conservative Republican Attorney General says he is ready to move forward in the court case against DACA, which is a slam dunk to blow it out of the warer.
North Carolina’s liberal Republican Senator wants to save DACA through legislation.
Which one is on OUR side? NOT Tillis.
Making matters worse, GOP Congressmen have discovered that Obama had a secret backdoor loophole program under which he has already set over 45,000 of these Dreamers on a path to full citizenship. Obama covered up that information, but now the Trump administration has made it public:

And I am sure the liberals in the Brunswick County GOP would give their eye teeth for a nod from this RINO turd at their next fundraiser.
I dislike Tillis for a number of reasons. One of his first acts as NC Speaker of the house was to approve hundreds of millions for upgrade the rarely used rail service from Charlotte to Raleigh to cut 12 minutes off the route. Then he worked to primary out two Republican representatives that tried to stop another of his crony capitalist projects that awarded a 50-year no bid, non compete contract to a Spanish company. He is no conservative. I just wonder what’s in it for him in this latest endeavor.
If Tillis shows his face at the next state GOP convention or at any GOP event, there ought to be organized booing.
Tillis is supporting the Obama ideology over the GOP platform.
I will continue to say this over and over again and hope that it sinks in to the people of NC. Greg Brannon warned us. Maybe next time NC will listen.

Agreed, me too.
I still find it bewildering… that people expected something different than what we’re getting from guys like Trump or Tillis. It’s not like they were super-brainancs keeping who they were some big secret.
*sigh* wishful thinking (and poorly aimed anger) can gloss over a lot of pretty obvious red flags, I guess.
The opportunities for anything better were lost last summer in the primaries, and it’s probably gonna be awhile (not to mention now more difficult) before we’re able to even attempt a climb out of this speedy little hand-basket we’re in. 🙂
