DC GOP slashing ad $$$ for NC’s US Senate race
This report comes right out of our nation’s capital:
A key Republican super PAC has removed $6.5 million in ad reservations from North Carolina’s Senate race for the month of October, according to media tracker AdImpact.
That decision by the GOP-aligned Old North Action comes after Semafor reported Republicans are weighing their commitment to the race because Republican candidate Michael Whatley is trailing former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper in polls. The group still has $14.5 million in reservations on the books through election day and didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Senate Leadership Fund, the main GOP Senate super PAC, also shuffled some of its reservations, removing $900,000 in broadcast buys in the state while adding $400,000 in digital ads. The group says it’s part of a regular rebalance of ad buys to maximize viewership and is set to launch new ads in North Carolina as it spends millions a week there. SLF has roughly $23.2 million reserved in North Carolina, according to AdImpact.
Polls showing Whatley trailing anywhere from five to fifteen points likely have something to do with this. We’re still nowhere near the $71 million that was initially being talked about.
You have to love these guys in DC. They cram Whatley down our throats – telling us he is “the only one who can beat Cooper.” Now that we’re finding that to appear less and less so — they’re making noises about cutting and running.
We could have done better if we had been allowed to have a real primary.

Another concern is what the National Republican Senatorial Committee is doing in Texas. They dumped millions into the PRIMARY for establishment hack Cornyn, but now refuse to put a dime into supporting the conservative nominee Ken Paxton. Given that type of behavior, I would NEVER consider giving a nickel to the NRSC. They can get stuffed. Cornyn, who got loudly booed by Texas GOP convention delegates, has been awful on a wide range of issues from immigration to gun rights.
Have not donated to these SOBs since the 1990s. They always come down on the side of the RINOs.
Yes, indeed — the big selling point about Whatley in the primary was that he was the only GOP personality who would be able to raise enough money to challenge the Cooper machine. So much for that idea. Oh well, I did not vote for him in the primary anyway, even if I have sent him a little money since he won. Good by to those dollars! PS: I have not seen such an inept campaign since — oh — Republicans run inept campaigns all the time!
Thus, THE seat, OUR seat is given up on when WE were told we HAD to vote and support Whatley. The fact coop gets our senate seat for 6Y is unfathomable. What didn’t become broken during this reign as AG or Gov? He stayed in NY and DC with Biden his last yrs as Gov. Did anyone in the gop camp NOT understand his leanings, his history and tendencies. Did COVID NOT teach us anything how he followed Fauci and Biden to keep NC locked down when every other southern state was open? THE damage to schools still being felt. He was sued by bars, beauticians, barbers, as he should for bankrupting their businesses. He MARCHED WITH BLM!!!!!
ncgop may has well raise a white flag, cry uncle, drop the charter and close the shop. To allow this seat to just drop into a dem lap, coop’s lap w/out a whimper. Surprised? They did same for gov mansion, Lt Gov, AG and Bd of Educ super. That’s the famous nc gop record and achievements. LOSING. THEY ARE LOSERS.
