#NCSEN: Hagan backs effort to put cop-killer’s lawyer in top DOJ job

haganKay Hagan tries hard to shake her reputation as Barry Obama and Chuck Schumer’s sock puppet.  She’s her own woman, she claims. But then comes  the Debo Adegbile confirmation vote in the Senate this week.

Adegbile was Obama’s nominee to head the US Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division — one of that agency’s top jobs.  Adegbile was a defense attorney for Mumia abu-Jamal a convicted cop killer who has sat on death row in Pennsylvania for 33 years.

You used to be able to filibuster controversial nominees in the Senate.  But thanks to Dingy Harry and Kay Hagan and the rest of the Democrat caucus, the number of votes required to move a nomination forward was dropped from 60 to 51.

Adegbile’s nomination passed the Senate Judiciary Committee with a party-line 10-8 vote.

Many police organizations — including the Fraternal Order of Police, as well as the widow of Abu-Jamal’s victim — have spoken out against Adegbile’s nomination.

Abu-Jamal, a former member of the Black Panther Party, was convicted for the December 1981 murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. A shootout occurred after Abu-Jamal approached Faulkner, who had pulled over Abu-Jamal’s younger brother at a traffic stop.

In addition to his membership in the Black Panther Party, Abu-Jamal was loosely associated with the Philadelphia-based separatist organization MOVE. While supporters describe him as a journalist, Abu-Jamal was driving a taxi at the time he murdered Faulkner. He has since become a hero in left-wing media and activist circles.

Eight Democrats — including Pennsylvania’s Bob Casey — broke ranks with their president and their caucus to vote with Republicans in the full Senate against  Adegbile. Sadly, Kay Hagan was NOT one of those eight.

THIS ONE is hard to understand.  The only people who would approve of this vote would be the Chapel Hill-Carrboro crowd.  They’re already in the tank for her, though.

It’s clear that — with Kay Hagan — the wishes of the radical left, Barry Obama and Chuck Schumer trump common decency.
