#ncga: ONE more?
Jimmy Dixon (R-Duplin) is chairman of the House Agriculture committee and vice-chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. He’s a powerful guy who gets a lot of attention from folks with business in front of The General Assembly. He, like his colleagues Messrs. Moore, Saine, and Hastings, also has some curious things going on with his campaign finances.
Dixon was unopposed in the March primaries. and does not have an opponent in the November general election. Yet, his latest campaign finance filings show that — for the current election cycle — his campaign has taken on $105,000 in loans and spent $126,088.61. Again, this was all done with NO primary or general election opponents.
- LOANS FROM BB&T. The DIxon campaign reports taking on a $50,000 signature loan on June 26. On April 11, the campaign took on another signature loan for $5000. (The campaign paid back $500 of that April 11 loan on June 13.) The campaign also identifies another signature loan — with no origination date — of $50,000.
- SPENDING. Of the $126,088.61 in campaign spending, a subtotal of $50,000 can be attributed to donations to the House Republican caucus. According to the Dixon campaign’s reporting, the campaign wrote a $25,000 check on March 1, a $15000 check on March 2, and a $10,000 check on April 13.
His campaign wrote a $2,500 check to Nelson Dollar on February 17 and one for $1000 to David Lewis on February 19. (Both Lewis and Dollar were involved in bitter primaries with conservative challengers at the time.)
It is simple legislators should not be allowed to donate money to each other… Ok problem solved but they would never pass that no matter what party was in charge
Plus they could easily donate to a middle man who donates to their friend.
yea it works both ways I get that.
You can check and see that I am not in the big money, because I can’t be bought; but I disagree with you about members being able to give to each other. If leadership is pushing a primary or general election opponent against a true conservative, it is good for other conservative members to be able to help that one.
And to that end, I believe a colleague of yours has established a PAC that we conservatives can donate to.
That PAC is the ONLY place conservatives ought to be giving money, other than to individual dependable candidates. The party committees are all tainted and controlled by the establishment. At the federal level they are notorious for going after conservatives in primaries, and at the state level, that seems to be the mindset at least in the House.
Is there a link where people can give online to that PAC? Or a mailing address?
I dont see a reason for someone’s campaign funds to be used for anything other than that particular person’s campaign. Anything else smacks of corruption and should be illegal.
If a politican wants to donate to a fellow member’s campaign, or to some other larger political organization, cool by me… but that should be done as any individual would do it, and from their own private funds.
It sounds like instead, these campaign coffers are simply slush funds being tossed around with little oversight… and that’s leading to less importance for merit… ideas, arguments, and actions… and more on who’s war chest is bigger.

It is time for at heart Americans to find one another . The PAC is an appropiate and damn good place to gather.

I am now classically conditioned to assume corruption when I hear about questionable expenditures and a politician. To be fair, though, how much of the money these guys are spending is compliance with NCGA leaders’ dictates (aka “rules”)? That is, just as in the US Congress, every member of the NCGA is obligated to pony up cash for their respective parties (unless I’m mistaken). So is any or all of Dixon’s funny money simply compliance with “dues paying”?
