While DC balks at cutting spending, the numbers just keep getting worse

Yes, I know we have a GOP majority in DC.  But it is exasperating to keep having to call JD Vance in to break ties on votes to cut ANY amount of spending.

We’ve heard for years what a mess our country is in financially.  The folks at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are hitting us with some cold, hard truth on their website about the sad state of our country’s finances.

This is a pretty good illustration of how government has grown over the last five years.  It also shoots holes in the myth peddled. by leftists about the Department of Defense gobbling up all the money.  The DoD is in 4th place, according to this table.  These amounts are all in billions-of-dollars.  (One thousand billion is ONE TRILLION.)

More spending (left column is 2019, right is 2024):

Yes, that’s a more than $2 trillion increase in spending over five years.  (Or a 51.7 percent increase.)

Now, let’s look at revenue.  That’s the money you take in to do all your spending.  In the real world – in our households – we try to at least take in an amount of money equal to what we spend.  The folks in DC apparently have no such worries.  (They print the money.  They don’t have to worry about the leg-breakers coming after them.)

Check out that $4.9 trillion in revenue for FY 2024 vs the $6.7 trillion in spending for the same year. That’s a 42 percent increase in revenue from 2019 to 2024.  Of course, spending – for the same period – went up 51.7 percent. Stuff like that leads to what we see in the next table.

You read that right.  That’s our federal deficit nearly doubling over five years.  (An 85.9 percent increase.)

Running our own households like this would wipe us out.  If we keep doing this, it will take our country down.  Continuing to reelect the same grifters who keep doing the same things to us over and over is not going to fix it. We have to stay on these people. We have to demand better.

Making the VP have to come in to break a tie on cutting $9 billion in spending is shameful.  Especially when we have an alleged conservative majority and a mess of these dimensions.
