Virginia Foxx, Olive Garden, and the wrath of a drive-by DEI princess
I’ve been around the news game for a long time. I can remember when the NC press corps was stocked with people who may have been liberal but could occasionally put together some competent journalism.
As those folks have retired and moved on, it’s pretty clear to see that the effort to fill those vacancies has been dominated by race, gender, and sexual orientation replacing things like, oh, competence.
Oh so many of these newbie drive-bys can’t wrap their near-empty heads around the concept that legal complaints filed with the court don’t have to contain proof. (It’s also not up to them to pass judgement on the quality of the case they’re writing about to their readers.) Proof is reserved for courtroom arguments.
The DEI princesses who have invaded the sports pages want to load us up with copy about Bill Belichick’s girlfriend. *Never mind team stats, health reports on starters, or scouting reports on upcoming opponents, or what actually happened in last night’s game. THAT is from the old days when white straight men mattered.*
One thing is for sure, the DEI newbies are keeping the op-ed pages in Charlotte and Raleigh as mean, as Marxist, as fact-deficient and as biased as ever. Here’s one of those newbies now:
As Virginia Foxx and her fellow Republicans continue to push for Congress to pass some form of the SAVE America Act, they’ve coalesced around an absurd talking point intertwining elections and … Olive Garden.
Olive Garden recently reintroduced its Never Ending Pasta Pass, which allowed 10,000 lucky customers to purchase a $100 pass for 13 weeks of unlimited pasta. Since the pass cannot be shared or transferred, diners must present a valid photo ID matching the name on the pass when ordering.
Therefore, Republicans argue, it makes sense to require a photo ID to vote.
“Heck, you even need to present a photo ID to utilize the Olive Garden’s Never Ending Pasta Pass,” Foxx said Monday during a committee hearing on Capitol Hill.
The argument has been echoed by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, as well as White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson, who claimed “Olive Garden takes pasta pass security more serious than Democrats are taking election security.”
It shouldn’t need to be said, but here it is: democracy is not an Olive Garden, and voting is not pasta. Unlike unlimited pasta, voting is a constitutional right. Unlike Olive Garden, the government is not a private business. Frankly, attempted pasta passholder fraud may even be more common than voter fraud, a federal crime that is virtually nonexistent. Also, trying to use your friend’s pasta pass to score a couple free bowls of alfredo isn’t going to land you in prison. (And, to be clear, you can still eat a normal meal at Olive Garden without being carded.) […]
This chick clearly got admitted to college, passed through college, and hired for this senior post at a money-bleeding media outlet because of her gender (and, likely, passion for marxism, the in-house religion). Her work here confirms she’s a dummy.
First, we’re not in a democracy. She’s a DEI princess that likely graduated from a DEI-infested institution. But people who went to real school – and paid attention – know that the United States is not a democracy but a representative republic.
Olive Garden requires an ID in order to ensure they are not being scammed and ripped-off by multiple people re-using the same pass over and over again. Kind of like how most all of us out here want IDs to be shown so we know folks who aren’t qualified to vote aren’t actually voting. Once, or more than once.
This princess wants us to believe it is really mean and oppressive to make people get and produce photo IDs. How do you make it through life without being able to prove who you actually are?

The police seem to have little empathy for people who say they have no ID. I doubt your average officer would let you go on your way if you don’t comply with his request for ID. In all likelihood, you’d be charged with obstruction and put into custody until you could prove who you are.
This DEI princess / scribbler is right to suggest voting is more serious than a pasta meal. That’s the point. Voting is one of the more important things we do in our country. We require ID for so many lesser tasks than voting. Why not throw an extra layer of security onto our elections?
*I could drive to Charlotte, walk up to a polling place and tell them I’m Paige Masten and I wanna vote NOW. They doggone better not make assumptions about my gender identity. Better not ask for my ID. Perhaps I identify as a mean, not-so-bright but pleasantly plump female beneficiary of DEI working for the Charlotte Observer? Who are they to judge me? *
We’re seeing all kinds of reports about non-citizens being registered to vote. The folks screaming about voter ID are really worried that ID requirements will put a dent in all the illegal aliens, felons and Alzheimer’s patients they are rolling through voting precincts with pre-marked ballots.
God forbid we protect the institution of voting for the people who actually follow the rules and live according to the law.
