TWO lawsuits accuse Phil Berger’s son AND Rockingham County of *government weaponization*
Considering how nasty Phil Berger‘s team got with Rockingham County sheriff Sam Page during this year’s GOP primary for state senate, a suit from Page was expected. But there aren’t many out there who foresaw a lawsuit from Rockingham County register of deeds Ben Curtis.
The Page complaint targets Rockingham County and county commissioner Kevin Berger individually. The complaint by Curtis, well-known as a long-time friend and supporter of Phil Berger, targets only Rockingham County. Despite their slightly differing targets, both complainants are alleging the use of county resources and powers against them for political purposes.
Let’s look first at the Curtis complaint:
The “sheriff”? *Could they have perhaps been talking about sheriff Sam Page, who knocked off county board of commissioners chairman Kevin Berger’s dad in the March race for state Senate?*
Judging from a complaint filed by Page against the county AND Berger the Younger, we might be on the right track:
This filing also gets a little more into the weeds than the Curtis filing did:

And what would a juicy political story be without an appearance from BergerWorld’s favorite lil’ guy?

I’ve long maintained that the GOPe in Raleigh has become as bad as – if not worse than – the Democrats the voters threw out in 2010. I believe stuff like this – and the ongoing corruption probes of things like Greater Carolina – will only prove me correct.

Oh my — the Register of Deeds has let the cat out of the bag! It is now abundantly obvious that the County Commissioners, or at least the dominant majority (soon to be replaced) smacked said Register of Deeds to cover their punitive action against the Sheriff, who had aroused the ire of the Berger Machine for opposing the casino in Rockingham and then, horror of horrors, running against Boss Berger himself for the State Senate. Which campaign actually toppled The Boss! This is such disappointing behavior — the bullying of The Boss and his minions, that is. But we are done with it and the minions are falling, too.
