The Senate majority leader vote SHOULD NOT be THIS HARD
There is a big vote in DC this Wednesday. It appears Republicans will hold a majority in Capitol Hill’s upper chamber for at least the next two years. Somebody needs to run the chamber and guide its majority. The American people are hoping it will be a real departure from the tiresome Mitch McConnell.
Chuck Schumer has been quite the loyal soldier for his Democrat presidents. WHY is it so hard for Republicans to stand by their Republican presidents? Senate Republicans hassled President Trump, tied up his nominees, and stonewalled his border wall during Trump 1.0.
A whip count of all Republicans expected to serve in the new Senate session was held late last week. Gun control and amnesty fan John Cornyn of Texas led the pack, followed by McConnell buddy and Never-Trumper John Thune of South Dakota and Trump ally Rick Scott of Florida.
Despite Donald Trump’s big win and yuuuuuuuge mandate, Rick Scott is in third place. Ted Budd is reportedly supporting John Cornyn while Thom Tillis is reportedly backing John Thune.
Let’s look at the conservative ratings for each of the three contenders. (The rating system goes from 0% – radically liberal – to 100% – perfectly conservative.)
The ratings are based on sixteen key votes from the current Senate session.
Tillis (39 %) is rated slightly to the right of Thune and Cornyn. Tillis, Cornyn AND Thune all have voting records to the left of Bernie Sanders.
Senator Rick Scott is the only candidate in the leadership race who can legitimately be defined as a conservative. Yet, neither of our allegedly *conservative* senators are giving him the time of day. Thune and Cornyn’s voting records are incompatible with the Trump agenda.
WHY NOT give Trump someone he can work with to carry out his mandate he just won in the recent election?
We all need to call Senator Ted Budd’s office at 202-224-3154 or 336-941-4470 and tell him that the grassroots NEEDS Rick Scott, and Fifth Columnists Thune and Cornyn are totally unacceptable.
Get rid of McConnell & his cronies
It is heartbreaking that the GOP now has the majority in both houses of Congress and there will likely be no change in our NC elected representatives behavior. The first test of unity is the election of Senator McConnell’s replacement. Two of the three running for that office are part of the old guard. They will not make serious attempts to get legislation passed or to enact legislation that they personally do not like. The exception is Senator Scott. He has declared his loyalty to President Trump and likely will be active in garnering Republican support. Either of the two “Old Guard” Senators will be much like McConnell. No support, no money for elections in which he did not like the person running and being very tight with the Democrats. But we have the “majority”. Yes, there are enough Senators with “R” behind their names to call it a majority but in reality many actively support the Democrats (a few of them are: Collins, Murkowski, Tillis, Thune, Romney, and so on). The House of Representatives group will not have a single member of the group that consistiently votes Republican. The ONE faithful representative who was consistently conservative ( Bishop) will no longer be in our Congressional delegation as of January 2025. That means not one bit of accountability from anyone representing NC in either the Senate or the House. We must start now to find and support conservatives to represent us …this half way representation must stop!
Thune has been McConnell’s chief deputy, and Cornyn held that position before him. They were bzonaoth groomed by McConnell to be just like McConnell. Elon Musk is right that Thune is the Democrats’ choice for this position. Neither one cares for the grassroots and both regularly sell us out on key policy issues. Both are fundamentally anti-grass roots. In Cornyn’s case, his bad votes led him to be loudly booed by the delegates at his own state’s Republican state convention.
Having Undocumented Democrats like “China Mitch” McConnell in these positions hurts conservatives in winning seats. This year, McConnell dumped millions into the hopeless race of liberal Larry Hogan in heavily Democrat Maryland but could not spare a dime for the competitive race of conservative Kari Lake in the swing state of Arizona, and that is hardly the first time McConnell has operated like that.
NEVER McCONNELL, NEVER THUNE, NEVER CORNYN
Tillis and Budd need to be reminded that NC voters have supported Trump in 2016, 2020 and certainly 2024. I will take Reaganite’s advice and call Budd’s office Wednesday morning encouraging him to vote for Scott. I think President Trump should do the same.
Thune elected…as expected. THE SWAMP must be the swamp. It’s what the SWAMP does.
The names/votes will leak eventually.
I’ve got my pen and paper ready. I’m done with anyone voting wrong on this.
Budd nor Tillis disappointed, as expected.
SWAMP rats…
NC has nothing but swamp rats, in DC and in Raleigh.
The swamp is the swamp and Tillis and Budd are not Helms and Faircloth. They aren’t Helms and East either. The NCGOP is like Wiley Coyote air born off the mountain waiting to hit the canyon bottom. poof
A Plan must exist to rid the republican party of these SWAMP RATS.
Tillis in 2026, Berger/Moore, et als along the way.
Certainly, Stein, Morrow, Jackson in 2028.
Must come from grassroots. The “party’ is exclusive, and we will NEVER be in it (though no conservative would want to be). What we need to do is stop allowing the ‘party’ to choose OUR candidates. We’ve had 20-30Y of that crap.
The state convention needs to be split wide-open and dynamited.
