The Senate majority leader vote SHOULD NOT be THIS HARD

There is a big vote in DC this Wednesday.  It appears Republicans will hold a majority in Capitol Hill’s upper chamber for at least the next two years.  Somebody needs to run the chamber and guide its majority. The American people are hoping it will be a real departure from the tiresome Mitch McConnell.

Chuck Schumer has been quite the loyal soldier for his Democrat presidents. WHY is it so hard for Republicans to stand by their Republican presidents? Senate Republicans hassled President Trump, tied up his nominees, and stonewalled his border wall during Trump 1.0.

A whip count of all Republicans expected to serve in the new Senate session was held late last week.  Gun control and amnesty fan John Cornyn of Texas led the pack, followed by McConnell buddy and Never-Trumper John Thune of South Dakota and Trump ally Rick Scott of Florida.

Despite Donald Trump’s big win and yuuuuuuuge mandate, Rick Scott is in third place.  Ted Budd is reportedly supporting John Cornyn while Thom Tillis is reportedly backing John Thune.

Let’s look at the conservative ratings for each of the three contenders.  (The rating system goes from 0% – radically liberal – to 100% – perfectly conservative.)

The ratings are based on sixteen key votes from the current Senate session.

Tillis (39 %) is rated slightly to the right of Thune and Cornyn.  Tillis, Cornyn AND Thune all have voting records to the left of Bernie Sanders.

Senator Rick Scott is the only candidate in the leadership race who can legitimately be defined as a conservative.  Yet, neither of our allegedly *conservative* senators are giving him the time of day.  Thune and Cornyn’s voting records are incompatible with the Trump agenda.

WHY NOT give Trump someone he can work with to carry out his mandate he just won in the recent election?
