Richard Burr: HB2 went “too far”
A few years back, he told us trying to defund ObamaCare was ”the dumbest idea” he’d ever heard — shoving a knife in the back of conservatives attempting a last-minute killing of that fiscal nightmare. He voted FOR allowing federal bureaucrats to use racial quotas in overseeing local residential zoning matters. Now, he’s shoving a knife in the backs of legislators, the governor, and most North Carolinians over the “bathroom law”:
Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., is criticizing his state’s anti-LGBT legislation that prohibits transgender people from using the bathroom of their choice.
“Yeah, I’ve got issues,” Burr told the Huffington Post when asked if he has problems the law, known as HB2. “The legislature botched what they were trying to do. It was far too expansive.”
The law, signed by Republican Gov. Pat McCrory, repeals protections against LGBT people by preventing local municipalities from passing anti-discrimination ordinances, and requires them to use bathrooms that correspond to their birth gender. Burr broke his silence Tuesday by talking about the law, and predicted it will eventually be changed in some capacity.
“It will be decided one of two ways: through the courts, where everybody’s chosen to place it now, or the General Assembly and the Charlotte City Council getting together and solving what was blundered on both sides,” Burr explained. He said the General Assembly “went too far” and “the City of Charlotte created an issue where there wasn’t a problem.”[…]
This guy has been screwing us, and our efforts, over and over again for years. And here he comes, hat in hand, asking for us to foot his bill for SIX MORE YEARS.
This is just one of many reasons why Tricky Dick Burr is a bridge too far for many conservative voters. He is an Obama Republican, through and through. We have nobody to vote for in the Senate race. There are three progressives on the ballot and no conservatives.
So someone explain why I should vote for Burr? Might as well vote Dem
Matt, don’t vote for him. I’m not. He’s going to lose because he won’t muster 100% of the Conservative vote; he’ll get the RINOs. I think the Dem will win due to the fact she’ll get 110% of living and dead Demo(n)crats. 😛
Forty percent of Republicans voted against Burr in the GOP primary!
Burr is dead wrong. Charlotte created a problem where none existed is the only thing he said that is right. We did the right thing, and I will not vote for backing down from it in any way.
Good for you Larry! You legislators did, indeed, do the right thing, and that includes protecting our small businesses from lawsuit harassment by the homosexual mafia.
Right on Larry Pittman and yes Charlotte gets the blame. But whose idea was it to explode such a topic? Smells of Saul Alinsky and Karl Marx to me. IMO that points directly at the White House think tank. What a shame it is that so many Americans, especially the younger voters, are innocently ignorant of what has actually occurred to this country in the last 7 plus years. Tyranny lurks as it always has and probably always will.
Browny Douglas
I hope it doesn’t end up going that far; but this is why we have the Second Amendment. Tyranny is never that far from reality. The more passive, ignorant, uninvolved, and self-centered people become, the closer it gets.
