#ncga: Burning the late-night oil while Ol’ Nelson sits in the corner

The N&O is hailing state Rep. Nelson Dollar’s obstruction on the state budget as a heroic piece of leadership.  I talked with one of his House bosscolleagues who sees things otherwise:

“I don’t know what he’s smoking.  The man is killing himself politically, and trying to take the rest of us down with him.  The rest of us, who live in the real world, realize we’ve got to get out of here.  He’s begging for a primary challenge right now.  Maybe he’s not running again.  Maybe he’s got some sweet job lined up in return for holding everything up. But dragging us down and screwing up state government even more than it is to further your own interests is a special kind of mental illness.”

Sources tell me legislators will be working into the late hours of the evening and — possibly — into the wee hours of the morning to try and bring the budget stalemate to a close.  My sources also tell me that Dollar has been told by Speaker Tim Moore to, in no uncertain terms, “get out of the way.”
