DC-based DEM dark money slamming NCGOP’s judicial ticket

There’s a new digital ad out there smacking GOP state court of appeals candidates Michael Byrne, George Bell, and Craig Collins.  It strongly suggests that all three are, um, *in bed* with convicted sex offender (and former NCGOP official) Harvey West.

Democrats have previously used West with some success against Republican US Senate candidate Michael Whatley and Supreme Court candidate Sarah Stevens.  Now, it appears time for down-ballot GOP candidates to experience the Harvey treatment as well. 

This likely would not be happening down-ballot if the top two candidates on the NCGOP ticket were in a stronger position.

I spoke to a source close to one of the three court of appeals candidates who told me:

“He doesn’t know Harvey West.  He thinks he may have met him briefly at one point.  But he’s never gone to him for money or attended any of his parties.  This is a really slimy way to go.”

So, who – you ask – is behind this digital ad?

*Paid for by State + Local Election Alliance.*  A quick browse over to their website finds that they are located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.  Of course there are no names or phone numbers listed.

ON the SLEA website, their address is listed as: 600 Pennsylvania Avenue SE  Unit 15180 Washington, DC.

A quick visit to your favorite search engine finds that an apparently left-leaning group called Capitol Compliance also shares that address.  

Digging a little deeper, we find that at least 13 other left-leaning organizations – including Jane Fonda Climate Action – also share that exact same address.

So, WHY are liberals in DC so concerned about what happens in North Carolina Court of Appeals races?

Apparently, Whatley and Stevens have been dispatched.  So now resources meant for those big races can be reallocated to try and pick off GOP targets down-the-ballot.
