Burr’s committee targets Trump, Jr.

The seemingly endless competition to see who can out-awful the other rages on between the two doofuses we elected to the US Senate.  Richard Burr — who ironically chairs the Intelligence Committee — has his committee subpoenaing Donald Trump, Jr.  It seems Burr and the gang on the um, “Intelligence” committee cannot let the Russian collusion thingie go:

The Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed Donald Trump Jr. to answer questions about his previous testimony before Senate investigators in relation to the Russia investigation, sources with direct knowledge told Axios.

Why it matters: It’s the first congressional subpoena — that we know about — of one of President Trump’s children. The subpoena sets up a fight that’s unprecedented in the Trump era: A Republican committee chair pit against the Republican president’s eldest son.

  • It’s also a sign that the Russia investigations in Congress aren’t over despite the conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe and despite Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell saying it’s time to move on from the Russia probe.
  • A Senate Intelligence Committee spokesperson told Axios: “We do not discuss the details of witness engagements with the Committee. Throughout the investigation, the Committee has reserved the right to recall witnesses for additional testimony as needed, as every witness and witness counsel has been made aware.”
  • “Don and Senate Intel agreed from the very beginning that he would appear once to testify before the committee and would remain for as long as it took to answer all of their questions. He did that. We’re not sure why we’re fighting with Republicans,” a source close to Trump Jr. told Axios.[…]

Yes, Tricky Dick.  WHY is this man having to fight with Republicans?  Better yet, WHY are YOU one of the last few remaining people still taking this Russian collusion with Trump crap seriously?

Between the lines: Mueller, whose investigation did not find a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia, did not indict Trump Jr., despite speculation that he would.

  • Unlike many congressional investigations in the Trump era, the Senate Intelligence probe — led by Republican chairman Richard Burr and Democratic vice chair Mark Warner — has been largely bipartisan.
  • The fact that they’re subpoenaing Trump Jr. is a strong signal that he declined a request to appear before the committee again.

The backstory: Trump Jr. testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in September 2017 that he was only “peripherally aware” of proposed plans for the Moscow project. His testimony was released. He testified for a total of more than 25 hours with three different committees, per a source familiar with the situation.

  • In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham in January 2019, Trump Jr. downplayed his knowledge of the discussions about a possible Trump Tower in Moscow, saying that the project was a creation of President Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen: “We don’t know anything about it. Ultimately, it was Michael Cohen essentially trying to get a deal done.”

What we know: Cohen claimed in his testimony before the House Oversight Committee in February that Trump Jr. was more aware of the project than that. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Cohen testified, he briefed Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump about the proposed Trump Tower Moscow project about 10 times.

Buzzfeed.   Is Tricky Dick The Lawnmower Man really, seriously harassing Don Jr. over info from Buzzfeed ????

I swear,  I think the only way  things could get worse for North Carolina in the US Senate is if we replaced our current dynamic duo with Rob Schofield and Chris Fitzsimon (aka “Bert & Ernie”).

  1. It is my understanding that Bert and Ernie have changed their Registrations from U to R and will announce an Exploratory Committee as soon as Colbert has a time slot for them.

  2. When I ran against this pathetic excuse for a Senator in the 2016 primary, I labeled him North Carolina’s “Invisible Man” in the U.S. Senate. How I sometimes wish he’d stay “invisible”–he’d do a lot less damage that way! Instead, on those rare occasions when he ventures out of his DC office and bumps into a reporter or TV camera, he’s more inept, inconsequential, and (frankly) insufferable than anything–none of which are good for those of us he supposedly “represents” in Washington!

  3. Does the term “Useful Idiot” apply to Burr. I think it is appropriate, and if McConnell who stated the Witch Hunt was over and to move on, as did the Mueller Coup Clowns in their Coup Report (which I have read) does not punish Burr who must not have gotten the memo, then I expect President Trump to exact his revenge fund raising wise on McConnell and others in their re-election this cycle.

  4. #NeverTillis2020 #NeverBurr2022
North Carolinians, whose splendid State motto is: To be, rather than to seem,” have endured having these two phonies for Senators for too long. No more holding our nose & having to vote for a RINO lesser of two evils, who betray us at every turn. Thank you, GARLAND TUCKER, for your courage! I’ll do all I can to help you & I’ll pray for your victory in 2020! In 2022 we’ll get rid of Burr, who hopefully won’t run again!

  5. When did it become collusion to want to build a hotel in Moscow?

We all get frustrated and threaten to not vote or to vote for a Democrat, but in Tillis’ and Burr’s cases, I wonder whether it’s time to follow through on our threats. So long as we keep rewarding these losers with our votes, what is their incentive to do what they promised?

I’ve voted for Bush 1, Bush 2, McCain (Palin, actually), Romney, Tillis, and Burr. I think I’m part of the problem even though I work very hard to be part of the solution. Someone convince me otherwise.

    1. Dear heavens, Yond, I wish I could, but I stand guilty in exactly the same way you are!

  6. Burr & Tillis…how on earth did we get to here from the days of Helms & Faircloth? Political devolution at its best.

  7. How did Richard Burr rise to chair an INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE?
Obviously he had some unreported concussions playing football.
