#ncpol NC-07: Rouzer applauds, then runs from CSX’s JoCo land grab
It should not come as a shock to anyone that a politician (1) takes a position, and then (2) runs like hell from it. But doing it so blatantly – and so close to an important election — will earn special recognition from us.
We reported earlier about how CSX and some state government types in Raleigh decided that a new CSX facility was going to go on a certain plot in Johnston County — whether or not the current landowners agreed. Why bother negotiating directly with landowners when you and your lobbyists can shower cash on and trade favors with politicians and bureaucrats in the halls of government — and TAKE WHAT YOU WANT?
Well, US Rep. David Rouzer (R) — whose district includes Johnston County — told the world on his Facebook page that CSX’s deal in Johnston County was just wonderful:
Rouzer even applauded the deal — which will uproot families who have been living and working on that land for generations — on his official website. (But curiously, after all of the public uproar, the release disappeared from his web site. Thank goodness for Google caching. Things on the Internet live forever.)
Rouzer’s primary opponent, Mark Otto, is having a field day with the issue:
“Although congressman Rouzer said this is “great news for the people,
businesses and the economy,” I believe taking people’s family farms by force
in order to benefit huge corporations is just wrong. Our multi-generational
farmers are quite literally being freight-trained into submission by CSX and
the politicians who are more interested in re-election than representation.
Eminent domain abuse must end; I will fight for the farm!”
Otto and Rouzer will face off at the polls on March 15th.
I sympathize with these folks, but what will they and all the people currently outraged about this do, when they find out that one of the principal drivers of this project is the military?
So David Rouzer does not believe in private property rights. A core principle in the founding documents.
David pretends to support farmers, but just one glance at his FEC reports shows he’s indebted to big corporate farmers. The family farmers, the everyday hard working American, not so much. This is a core principle of the GOPe and David once again proves he’s part of the #WashingtonCartel.
Just to recap, in his first year in Congress, David has lied directly to his constituents not once but at least 8 times on two major policy issues, he’s voted to fully fund Planned Parenthood, Obama’s illegal executive amnesty, refugee resettlement program, he reauthorized the Export Import Bank, AKA the Bank of Cronyism, voted to continue Common Core, and now shows his support for government land grabs of private property in order to satisfy his campaign donors. Only one year in, can you only imagine how bad he’s going to get if allowed to remain.
Rouzer got caught talking out of both sides of his mouth On this one revealing to even his own county what a mealy mouth little squirrel he is. Vote Otto! He’s not a career politician or lobbyist. Rouzer has both in his resume.
Well, well, another display of Rouzer being the opposite of his professed mentor Jesse Helms. Poor Jesse. Bet you can see the grave turning. Replace this fraud. Personal property rights aren’t up for debate. They are our constitutional God given rights.
Yeah, another “protege” of Jesse Helms is George Holding who hasn’t exactly measured up, either, particularly with respect to constituent service.
I agree, George Holding does not represent his constituency, He votes for big government spendng every chance he gets. George believes he can get a free pass if he votes yes for a bill but later refers to the bill as a “real stinker”. He claims to want to cut, cut, cut federal spending but that is nothing more than a campaign gimmick for his drive by constituents.
Ginny
Talking about Jesse all the time doesn’t make you like Jesse. Jesse’s actions and consistency didn’t need patronizing words. He always kept his promises and stayed true to his principles. Rouzer invokes his name in speeches. But he doesn’t emulate him in his actions.
Taylor Griffin, the establishment challenger to Walter Jones, also claims Jesse Helms, but Senator Helms widow made radio ads endorsing Walter Jones.
Sorry, I believe there’s a typo in this article:
US Rep. David Rouzer (R) should be
US Rep. David Rouzer (D)
Much better, thanks! Voters will know just what to do.
Just a thought. 30 miles north of Selma sits a railroad freight yard already existing and underused, also situated on I-95″ Nearby politicos are too busy advocating for the Welfare State and “visioning”” God help us since we can’t seem to help ourselves.
And if that one is not sufficient, there is a WHOLE LOT OF EMPTY SPACE in the sacred Global Transpark!
I believe they completed a $13,000,000 rail spur to the Transpark but were not using it because it was cheaper to haul the cargo to the port at Morehead City. Now a study group is studying whether or not if would be more beneficial to extend the port at Morehead to the Global Transpark.
According to the Big Rock Tournament Website the Blue Marlin weigh-in will be at the GTP in 2019 at the GTP Marina and Grill.
Let them come to Rocky Mount, and renovate the train roundhouse, we have lots of unused ACL property here that CSX can update, renovate and used. Right off of Hwy. 64 and I 95.
Leave the family farm alone. Personal Property Rights should remain a constant in our society. This is so wrong, when there are other available places to use.
David’s instinctual reaction to this news was to take credit and clap his hands instead of first thinking of property owners. He’s not known as a thinker. He’s an opportunist. No surprise here.
Woody, I think a lot of folks have their eyes open. Rouzer’s going to win 2016 on name reconginiztion, but I think 2018 is yours, pray on it brother…
