Walter Jones called one of “Ten Most Likely” to lose their House primaries

“The Fix” — The Washington Post’s online politics blog — has tapped North Carolina congressman Walter Jones as one of the top ten incumbents MOST LIKELY to lose their primary races this year:

[…] Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.): If there’s one guy who’s ripe for a conservative primary challenge, it’s Jones. Jones frequently votes against his party on the major issues of the day, the most recent being Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) budget. In fact, it’s a wonder he’s escaped serious opposition in recent years. That could change this year, with former New Bern Police Chief Frank Palombo running against him and the Campaign for Primary Accountability targeting him. We’ll see if Jones is actually threatened, but he’s a ripe target. […]

In related news,  Citizens United — a DC-based nationally-renowned conservative PAC — has waded into the Third Congressional District GOP race and endorsed Palombo:

Citizens United Political Victory Fund (CUPVF), the affiliated PAC of Citizens United, issued the following statement endorsing conservative Frank Palombo in North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District. CUPVF has contributed $5,000 for Palombo’s primary election.

“Career politician Walter Jones is out-of-touch with his constituents in North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District,” said David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United. “Jones recently voted against two Republican budgets that would have put America back on a path towards fiscal sanity. Rated the most LIBERAL Republican in Congress by National Journal, it was no surprise to see him standing with liberal members of Congress John Yarmuth, Jesse Jackson, Jr. and Barbara Lee in co-sponsoring a far-flung constitutional amendment that would severely limit the First Amendment rights of all Americans.

“I urge North Carolinians in the 3rd Congressional District to vote for conservative Frank Palombo in this crucial primary election. Mr. Palombo, a longtime Chief of Police, could have stayed on the sidelines and continued to enjoy his retirement, but his commitment to public service and his dedication to making our country a better place for future generations steered him into the political arena. He will come to Washington to shake things up and work to dismantle President Obama’s failed liberal policies. Walter Jones has veered off course over the years – North Carolina’s 3rd district is a conservative district and its residents deserve a true conservative like Frank Palombo as their U.S Representative in Washington.”
