Tillis runs into welcoming embrace of Democrat establishment
We now know Uncle Thom’s plans for when he’s finally forced to leave Capitol Hill:
U.S. Republican Sen. Thom Tillis is set to take on a new role at Davidson College after his time in the Senate.
Tillis will serve as a leader-in-residence with Davidson’s new D.G. and Harriet Wall Martin Institute for Public Good, the college announced Wednesday. Former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice and Arab American Institute President James Zogby are also joining the program. […]
Okay, let’s review. Susan Rice was a key Obama and Biden appointee. Zogby was also an Obama appointee and a Democrat National Committee official.
Many of you may recognize the name D.G. Martin. He ran for the US House as a Democrat twice in the 80s and for the US Senate once in the 90s – coming in second to John Edwards. Martin was also a top official in the UNC system during several Democrat administrations in Raleigh.
More recently, he was known as father to former Democrat legislator Grier Martin of Raleigh.
Davidson, like most college campuses these days, is hardly a conservative bastion. The widely despised Woodrow Wilson once matriculated there.
So, it’s liberals, liberals, liberals every where you look.
Well, this fits the pattern we’ve been seeing. Republicans hate Uncle Thom’s stinking guts. The folks on MSNBC and The View are ga-ga over our Thommy. Perhaps the folks on the left do need to spend some quality time with him for a while.
Uncle Thom will likely fill the role the drive-by media once held for Bob Orr – a nominally Republican talking head standing by ready to bad-mouth Republicans at the drop of a hat.

Brent, I know you don’t like posting negative things, but I’m worried about where we’re headed. Would Thom Tillis have beaten Roy Cooper? I don’t know, but I think he would have had a better chance than Whatley.
I think the average voter is angry, and the enthusiasm we see on Facebook doesn’t necessarily reflect what people are feeling outside our own circles. My concern is that voters will punish Republicans who won’t stand up to Trump when they disagree with him.
I support some of Trump’s ideas. I certainly don’t want Iran to have a nuclear weapon. But I don’t believe tariffs are working, and I have serious concerns about RFK Jr.’s judgment. Supporting our party shouldn’t mean defending every person or every decision.
Honestly, I think it’s time for us to move on from Trump. We need leaders who can stand on their own and give people a reason to trust us.
I hope the optimistic Facebook crowd is right. I hope we don’t get wiped out. But when even polling from Fox News raises concerns, I don’t think we can just brush it off. I’m afraid this could be a brutal election year, and I’d rather have an honest conversation now than act surprised afterward.
Too bad about Davidson the college.
