Robinson Family Matters: False Statements to the IRS?
(The Internal Revenue Service ranks right up there with mom and dad and GOD on the list of people you don’t intentionally mislead.)
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is seeking to be governor – the captain of our ship of state. He’s made it clear that he and his wife, Yolanda Hill, are a “package deal.” In media interviews, Robinson has stated that he leaves all family financial matters to Hill — who, according to reports, does have an advanced degree in accounting.
We’ve reported previously on the Robinson family’s Greensboro-based business called Balanced Nutrition. According to company filings, Balanced Nutrition appears a contractor with the state of North Carolina and powered by pass-through funds from the US Department of Agriculture and the state DHHS.
We’ve all filled out IRS forms and attested that the info is true to the best of our knowledge. Reviews of Balanced Nutrition’s filings have found some troubling inconsistencies — which have so far been met by silence by the Robinson camp. We’d love to hear that these are nothing but innocent mistakes and easily-corrected errors. But, sadly, we’re hearing nothing.
On each IRS form 990, the filers – in this case, Yolanda Hill — has to attest to the following (see item 2):
Hill has checked “NO,” when asked if the company has any family relationships among employees and directors. She’s done this same thing every year from 2017 to 2021. Here are the employees, officers, etc. she listed for 2017:
*Danzeto Cephas is Yolanda Hill and Mark Robinson’s son-in-law.
Now, let’s look at IRS form 990 for 2018, where Ms. Hill (Robinson) has also affirmed that there are no family relationships among officers, employees, etc. :
* Danzeto Cephas is married to Yolanda Hill and Mark Robinson’s daughter Kimberly.
Now, let’s look at IRS form 990 for 2019, where Ms. Hill (Robinson) has also affirmed that there are no family relationships among officers, employees, etc. :
* Danzeto Cephas is married to Yolanda Hill and Mark Robinson’s daughter Kimberly. Dayson Robinson is Yolanda Hill and Mark Robinson’s son. Via our research, we have learned that Cassaundra Spinks and Tuwanda Brunson have familial ties and share a Greensboro residence.
Now, let’s look at IRS form 990 for 2020, where Ms. Hill (Robinson) has also affirmed that there are no family relationships among officers, employees, etc. :
*Dayson Robinson is Yolanda Hill and Mark Robinson’s son.
Now, let’s look at IRS form 990 for 2021, where Ms. Hill (Robinson) has also affirmed that there are no family relationships among officers, employees, etc. :
*Again, Dayson Robinson is Yolanda Hill and Mark Robinson’s son.
Yes, you read that right. Hill reported she worked 55 hours a week for NO PAY.
On the 2021 filing, the IRS was told $173,108 was paid out in salaries / compensation / benefits. Yet, page 7 shows three employees getting paid NOTHING. WHO GOT PAID THE $173,108 IN 2021?
IRS form 990 for 2022 was due to the IRS by May of this year. According to the filings by Balanced Nutrition, those forms are available “upon request.”
A source close to our site contacted Ms. Hill (Robinson) for a copy of the 2022 form roughly two weeks ago. Ms. Hill (Robinson) reportedly acknowledged that request, but has not produced the form. (The IRS has not yet made it public on their sites.)
So, we have FIVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS where the claim is made that there are no relevant family relations. Making that mistake ONCE can honestly be dismissed as a mistake. But FIVE YEARS IN A ROW?
According to his autobiography, We Are the Majority, Mark Robinson assisted his wife with her business, even though IRS Form 990 filings do not list him as an employee. After he left his job with Davis Furniture on August 17, 2018, he said he was (page 178) either:
“[…] making speeches or was downtown at my wife’s office, helping her with her work. This is something my son does now. When I ran for office, I stopped doing that, and that’s when my son started filling in. Now my son does it full time.”
Robinson announced on July 2, 2019 he would run for lieutenant governor.
Voters deserve an explanation here. We’re screaming, pleading, begging for good government. If this is simply carelessness with the company books, come out and say it, and make the corrections. I’m sure there are plenty of registered voters who will forgive and forget.
The conspicuous silence while hiding out in out-of-state fundraisers is troubling, to say the least.
Our next Governor could probably help them get these forms filled out correctly. He’s pretty good with numbers and such, and nice enough to do it.
Dale Yeah!
