#ncga: Why do Berger & co. keep ham-stringing efforts to get non-citizens off NC voter rolls?
We get a lot of lip service from Raleigh Republicans about supporting border security, election integrity, and President Trump. So, why has the GOP-controlled Senate blocked THREE TIMES a serious effort to clean illegals off our state’s voter rolls?
Perhaps it’s thanks to some Farm Bureau PAC money scooped up by Brent Jackson. Or some convenient cash from those rats at The Chamber. There are rarely any ideological arguments anymore in our capital city. It’s all about ca$h-flow.
The feds recently caught a Korean national voting multiple times in Columbus County. The Democrats, Josh Stein, and those “heroes” at the state board of elections have kvetched and moaned about complying with a subpoena from a diligent US attorney seeking to DO THEIR JOB FOR THEM.
Here’s Jay DeLancy, executive director of The Voter Integrity Project, writing about his frustrations in trying to get Jones Street Republicans to help with getting non-citizens off of voter registration lists:
[…] Three times… in 2013, 2015 and 2017, Voter Integrity Project has advocated for a corrective legislative measure in this area, but certain bi-partisan forces have constantly fought the bill in the NC Senate, where it has died twice. for the third session in a row, the bill passed the NC House. This year’s version, House Bill 29, passed the lower chamber with bi-partisan support, but it languishes under the watchful eye of Senator Phil Berger. He has let it die for five years and counting.
Meanwhile Florida leads in this common-sense reform. According to the July 31, 2017 (Florida) Sun Sentinel…
The [Broward County] elections office began receiving jury recusal information this year from the Broward clerk of courts about residents who filed forms saying they could not serve on a jury because they were either a non-citizen or a convicted felon, [County Supervisor of Elections, Brenda] Snipes said. The elections office can cross-reference that information against its voter rolls to see if any are voters that should be removed for the same reasons.”
To be clear, Snipes is NO friend of election integrity. For reasons far beyond the scope of this post, our Florida counterparts have fought long (and losing) battles with her over purging the voter rolls of people living (and voting) from mail box kiosks, business addresses, and vacant lots. She refuses to comply with these peasants at Florida Voter Integrity Project.
In fact, our side has had so much trouble with her cavalier attitude that the American Civil Rights Union has her in federal court. So, in order to mitigate a bad loss in that lawsuit, she has suddenly seen the light and is taking pro-active common-sense measures to clean up her act… and the Broward County voter rolls.[…]
Why is the NCGOP using State Senator, Phil Berger, to block HB 100, a bill that helps election officials get non-US citizens off North Carolina’s voter rolls?[…]
Yeah. WHY ????
In all three of those occasions (2013,2015,2017) the GOP had veto-proof majorities in the Senate. The House did their job and sent it across the way to Berger’s fiefdom — where it died a slow bureaucratic death.
You have to respect the leftists for being HONEST enough to admit they have no interest in protecting our national security. But it’s extra appalling to have politicians on the right who CLAIM to be with you on protecting the country, but do exactly what the leftists want. In most cases, for a wee bit more campaign cash.
Could the trail also lead to Berger’s millennial progressive staffer Brent Woodcox? Since Woodcox showed up, Berger has been doing a lot of liberal things.
The old Berger used to be a great conservative. The new Berger reminds me way too much of that backstabbing swamp rat Mitch McConnell. I would have voted for the old Berger for a higher position, but the new Berger? No way, Jose! His actions on things like HB2, gun rights, and the green energy boondoggle have turned me off, and this one is the craziest of all.
“He has let it die five years and counting”…that’s his consistent response to the Dismemberment Abortion Ban bill also. Will a conservative please come forward and run against him in the GOP primary?
Why would anyone other than a liberal or a Democrat want to promote illegal aliens voting? The Farm Bureau and Chamber of Crony Capitalism only care about cheap labor, not things like voting. Berger is way off the reservation, here. What is his agenda?
But we have to remember that it was Berger who stopped the pro-gun legislation in the last session of the General Assembly as well as the pro-life legislation. And he pushed through Roy Cooper’s repeal of the bathroom privacy law, HB2< that even goes so far as giginv local governments new powers to supress religious liberty beginning next year. He is also a Solyndra Republican who has helped impose the expensive and unreliable solar energy boondoggle on us.
Berger wants to run statewide, but with the record he has compiled, any thinking conservative will be boting NO on Berger.
