EVEN MORE GAY GOLF in Pinehurst ???

It seems like just yesterday that the United States Golf Association (USGA) was flying the LGBTQAIXYZ+ flag above its Pinehurst headquarters campus.  Despite all the North Carolina tax dollars that went to the USGA to help support their move to North Carolina, we have yet to get them to even fly the North Carolina state flag.  (For what it’s worth, the Eaton Corporation’s golf grip R&D and manufacturing facility in Pinehurst proudly flies the North Carolina flag.)

It is our understanding that there were some serious discussions between local big-wigs and USGA officials about the flag episode. Things got quiet for a while. That is, until flyers like THIS started showing up in public places around town:

The USGA is listed by Sandhills Pride – a local group promoting the political agenda of the alphabet crowd –  as a “PRIDEFest Sponsor.”

I, for one, am getting tired of the radical left injecting identity politics into every single aspect of our culture and society.  What they’ve done to sports is atrocious.  DEI dominates ESPN broadcasts.  The Black Lives Matter agenda is on display ad nauseum during NBA and NFL competitions.

I’m old enough to remember when the demands were pretty reasonable: “Stop physical and verbal harassment of people different from you, respect the privacy of consenting adults, and extend to everyone you can at least the basic level of respect due every human being.”

I can live with that, as can most other reasonable people. But what’s hard to live with is the forcible attempts to rewrite history, biology, and theology to accommodate identity politics hard-liners. *Forbidden* words and ideas are stomped out in a manner that would have pleased Mao and Trotsky.  Refuse to cave into certain demands and you get shouted down, branded a bigot, and subjected to vicious PR campaigns and boycotts.

This particular group – Sandhills Pride – is mostly composed of activists from outside the area intrigued by the idea of creating a stir in strongly-conservative and church-going Moore County.  You might remember the group from their promotion and sponsorship of drag queen shows in Southern Pines.

What does the alphabet-group political agenda have to do with promoting the game of golf?  Was the purpose of the USGA’s move to Pinehurst to meddle in local political affairs?

The USGA’s move south allowed us to benefit from the organization’s prestige and in-house talent.  But did the move also import a lot of New Jersey-bred left-wing political attitudes?
