YES on impeachment: ‘Tricky Dick’ Burr burning ALL of his bridges as the end of his final term nears
Once again, our senior US senator is extending his middle finger to his party’s base. Richard Burr was one of SEVEN Republicans who voted ‘YES’ on the question of whether to convict former president Donald Trump. (Tillis voted ‘No.’) Here’s what Burr had to say for himself:
[…] January 6th was a grim day in our nation’s history. The attack on the U.S. Capitol was an attempt to undermine our democratic institutions and overrule the will of the American people through violence, intimidation, and force.
Seven lives were tragically lost as a result of that day. Law enforcement officers, outnumbered and overwhelmed, sustained debilitating injuries as they bravely defended Congress against an angry mob. We now know that lawmakers and congressional staff came dangerously close to crossing paths with the rioters searching for them and wishing them harm.
When this process started, I believed that it was unconstitutional to impeach a president who was no longer in office. I still believe that to be the case. However, the Senate is an institution based on precedent, and given that the majority in the Senate voted to proceed with this trial, the question of constitutionality is now established precedent. As an impartial juror, my role is now to determine whether House managers have sufficiently made the case for the article of impeachment against President Trump.
I have listened to the arguments presented by both sides and considered the facts. The facts are clear.
The President promoted unfounded conspiracy theories to cast doubt on the integrity of a free and fair election because he did not like the results. As Congress met to certify the election results, the President directed his supporters to go to the Capitol to disrupt the lawful proceedings required by the Constitution. When the crowd became violent, the President used his office to first inflame the situation instead of immediately calling for an end to the assault.
As I said on January 6th, the President bears responsibility for these tragic events. The evidence is compelling that President Trump is guilty of inciting an insurrection against a coequal branch of government and that the charge rises to the level of high Crimes and Misdemeanors. Therefore, I have voted to convict.
I do not make this decision lightly, but I believe it is necessary.
By what he did and by what he did not do, President Trump violated his oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.
My hope is that with today’s vote America can begin to move forward and focus on the critical issues facing our country today.”
Surprisingly, the NCGOP had some tough — for THEM — words for senator Burr. Here’s party chairman Michael. Whatley:
“North Carolina Republicans sent Senator Burr to the United States Senate to uphold the Constitution and his vote today to convict in a trial that he declared unconstitutional is shocking and disappointing.”
What else would you except, from someone who has no clue what the constitution means?
Our team ran against both progressive senators and the progressive establishment. My question, how can the establishment be beating? They make 30% the threshold for victory in the primary. Burr would not even debate us. Obviously Tillis warned him. See this link:

I am optimistic – when individuals stop being used and voting for the lesser of two evils. The frauds will be exposed.
Liberty and Freedom are not negotiable.
We have become ,the rule of man, not the rule of law. Prime example , all these non constitutional executive orders, both at the state and federal level .
The real question is, where are the servant representatives that swore to uphold their constitutional oath? Silence, They have to suffer no repercussions for their oath breaking. Only increase their wallets.
Hopefully the consent of the governed, will stop being silent and take back what’s ours- Our Consent!
A legitimate government protects the individual’s Life Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness. Today , the enemy of those Natural Rights, is the government, that was established to protect these rights!
“ When in the course of Human Events!” It’s time !
Once again Burr is showing what it took to get the corruption charges dropped. Thank you for
not running again. Now just go away and stay out of the way of a committed Republican with brains.
Let’s ASSUME that every word of Burr’s rationale is factually correct, as he sees it. It remains the case that the Dems all voted in lockstep to convict, and Burr joined them. Where does he go from here in N.C. Republican politics?
Sen. Richard Burr also went along with the Russian Collusion Hoax….He owed someone something FIERCE to go along with that WITCHHUNT and this is NO DIFFERENT…”YOU DO AS WE SAY and there will be no criminal charges …It is as simple as that ! I attended a Rotary club Meeting where he spoke once…He praised Erskine Bowles over and over that day…..I KNEW SOMETHING WAS NOT VERY AUTHENTIC ABOUT SEN BURR THAT DAY a few years ago – WHAT A FAILED RINO legacy he leaves behind. I am so thankful for Pres. Trump exposing these frauds in DC for who they REALLY are- YOU TOO MITCH ! The Genie is out of the bottle now folks….The TRUMP ’24 TRAIN is fixing to ROLL !
I just heard the NC GOP Chairman on Fox News radio saying that Burr had been a great senator and would continue to be a great Republican senator. And this was after he was censured. What gives?
Looks like Burr stood up for American values. He put Country over Party for once.
Burr is what we always knew he was. He’s straight out of central casting as a country club Republican. He’s been in DC so long he has no idea what the good people of NC really value. He’s toast in NC , but you know what ….he don’t care. He doesn’t like Trump , because Trump called out and exposed all the DC Swamp dwellers. What a disgrace Burr is.
