The Pinehurst Hot Mess: Running Out The Clock

There’s a public hearing at village hall on Tuesday.  All indications are that the Strickland-Pizzella mob will iron out their strategy in an illegal closed session to go ahead and ram the short term rentals ban through — regardless of what is said at the public hearing.

Village Council meetings are notorious for being 4 to 6 hour marathons. They start at 4:30-ish and you’re lucky to be out by 9 PM.

The vacation rentals ban is the hottest topic in town right now.  Ninety-nine percent of the people at the meeting Tuesday will be there for that subject.

So, why has the public hearing on the ban been pushed down the agenda to item #11?

I’ll tell you why.  The Strickland-Pizzella cabal is hoping, hoping, hoping that all of the ban opponents will get tired of waiting for the hearing and go home.  Then, all that will be left are their comrades in the aspiring-authoritarian Friday Group. The illusion will then be created that the ban is wildly popular.

Have you ever seen local officials work so hard to strangle the life of their local economy and chase off tourists?
