Ted Budd: Duplicitous, dewy-eyed, or just plain Dumb?
Considering that he allowed that handlebar-mustachioed Mitt Romney fanboy to run his 2022 Senate campaign, I expected there to be some collateral damage.
The House version of Ted Budd was something I could enthusiastically get behind. He paired with his colleague Dan Bishop and was a good loyal soldier with the House Freedom Caucus. Ted maintained a good conservative voting record, and everything looked like smooth sailing.
Then, Richard Burr retired and a Senate seat came open. The main GOP competitors were former congressman Mark Walker, former governor Pat McCrory, and Budd. Budd was clearly the best of those three. (We learned from a print interview with Thom Tillis that our soon-to-be-senior senator was serving as a strategist for the McCrory campaign. The McCrory campaign was beating on Budd pretty hard. If he won, Budd would hopefully hold a good, long grudge against Tillis.)
Budd ended up winning. No sooner than the conclusion of the victory parties,
Budd started tossing his conservative credentials. We hear that he started ‘ghosting’ Bishop and blowing off his House Freedom Caucus comrades. It’s our understanding that a number of senators still meet with the House Freedom Caucus for purposes of communication and collaboration. Ted would not be one of those.
Inexplicably, after the swearing-in, we started seeing a bunch of joint press releases from Budd and Tillis. Ted was linking himself to a guy that helped run a slash-and-burn campaign against him. Tillis needed Budd more than Budd needed Tillis. But for some reason, young Ted crossed over to Thom and the dark side.
That brings us to today. President Trump is delivering on his campaign promise to send back all of the illegal aliens in the country. Many Democrat-run localities are refusing to allow their cops to help ICE carry out detentions and deportations. So, you have a handful of ICE agents trying to execute deportation orders being met on the street by hundreds of radical leftist hoodlums. And not one lick of local police protection or assistance in sight.
Leftists sure had a different reaction in the 1960s to locals not wanting to help federal agents enforce federal law.
Even in North Carolina, we have radical NGOs — likely funded with government money — training people on how to “Fight ICE.”
With what we know of Ted Budd’s voting record, we’d expect him to come out strongly for law and order — respecting lawmen and their work, that kind of thing.
But, sadly, NO. Here’s Ted on — of all places — public radio talking just like the Democrats, the stupid corrupt drive-by legacy media, and the loons rioting in the streets:
North Carolina Republican Sen. Ted Budd is urging the Trump administration to rethink how it enforces immigration laws, arguing that current tactics fail to distinguish between undocumented immigrants who are committing crimes and those who are otherwise working and following the law. […]
MORE:
[…] In an interview with Bloomberg News, Budd said immigration enforcement should focus on people who pose public safety threats, rather than casting a wide net.
“Everyone probably knows somebody that is here from another country — maybe they didn’t come in the right way,” Budd said. “Being here illegally is a problem, but you want to make sure you differentiate between those who came here the right way, they had the best of intentions, they’re coming and being a part of this great America that we know and love … and those that are here illegally and are here to commit crimes.” [….]
Soooooo — don’t enforce immigration law? If you ignore the requirements of immigration law, you ARE breaking the law. You are NOT likely paying taxes. You are LIKELY operating under someone else’s social security number — which IS still a crime. MORE:
[…] Budd’s comments come a day after he was one of eight Republicans who joined Democrats in voting against a government spending bill that included more than $64 billion for the Department of Homeland Security.Budd said he supports immigration enforcement but believes Congress should negotiate Department of Homeland Security funding separately from the broader spending package, and urged the administration to change its strategy.“I think people are OK with enforcement, but they don’t like the tactics,” Budd said. “Let’s make them less visceral. Let’s make them effective.” […]
How about going after localities who are not assisting with the enforcement of federal law? Just like what’s been done ever since the federal Civil Rights Laws were passed.
[…] Budd said also he opposed the bill in part because it included funding related to abortion services and transgender care for minors. And he said Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agents should be equipped with body cameras and receive additional training. […]
[…] The vote follows Budd’s recent statement calling the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by federal agents a “tragedy” that warrants a full investigation, which he repeated while speaking to Bloomberg.
“Anytime there’s a death like this, and something got escalated to that point, I think it’s fair to all involved, including law enforcement, to take a look at how this could be prevented in the future,” he said.[…]
A good way to prevent stuff like this is to not show up at an active law enforcement scene ready-to-rumble. Has everybody seen the footage of this Pretti freak kicking the iCE vehicle, spitting on it, and screaming things like : “Arrest me, mother—-ers ! Assault me, motherf—ers !! Come get me, motherf—ers !!”Law enforcement shootings almost always have some kind of investigation in their wake. I know plenty of cops. I haven’t come across any who feel good about ending someone’s life.
Despite what the media says and shows, deadly force is really quite rare in law enforcement operations.
Better yet, Ted. How about not shooting off your mouth about stuff you know so little about? You’ll find yourself in the same boat as your pal, Thom — who had to “retire” because even the ol’ pizza delivery guy was kicking his @ss in the polls.
[…] Despite criticizing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and senior Trump advisor Stephen Miller this week, North Carolina Republican Sen. Thom Tillis voted in favor of the DHS funding bill.

Another Senator Thom about to hatch?…
What part of “illegal” does Ted Budd not understand???? Sure the criminal illegal aliens should be the very highest priority to deport., but EVERYONE who broke our immigration laws needs to go, too. It is half way to being for amnesty to say that law enforcement should leave the illegal aliens who have not committed other crimes alone. That is absolutely unacceptable.
Also, there is no such thing as an “undocumented immigrant”. That term is pure Orwellian Newspeak. Federal law in the United States Code defines “:immigrant” solely as someone who is going through the lawful immigrant process. They are also not “undocumented”. It is that their documents show that they belong somewhere other than in the United States. The correct term in federal law for these scofflaws is “illegal alien”.
Speaking of NGOs being funded at least in part through the federal government, I have written to Budd, Tillis and my representative in the House, Virginia Foxx, calling upon them to stop funding ALL NGOs since I do not like my taxes supporting causes I despise. Pablum answers from Tillis and Budd (“I support President Trump and am working for a strong national defense and a prosperous economy, blah blah blah.”). I guess not even one of their staff people read my messages. As for Foxx? No reply at all. Come to think of it, I never get a reply from the people who allegedly represent me in the state legislature, either — Berger and Pyrtle. Things were not like this before and I can remember getting at least halfway specific responses when I wrote my reps while I lived in another state.
Your reps call those that provide the $$$ and benefits.
NOT, We The People.
We have ceased to be represented at least 30Y ago.
In recent years whenever I’ve gone to the legislative building with a group, the word gets around and no hide nor hair can be found of the leadership. Yeah buddy.
If 2016 had been a normal year with a runoff threshold, Budd would have had to face off against John Blust in a second primary. Who would have won?
