SUED! (by the, um, GIRL SCOUTS)

I believe our Jewish brothers and sisters have an expression for things like this:  Oy vey!

We’ve heard a lot about Mark Robinson and Yolanda Hill‘s financial troubles through the years: the bankruptcy proceedings, an eviction, the failure of the daycare center, and the latest hubbub over Balanced Nutrition, among others.

I tell ya — it was hard to believe my eyes when I came across THIS.   Yolanda Hill was sued in 2003 in Guilford County Small Claims Court for MONEY OWED.   And who did she owe money to?  According to court documents, it was none other than The Tar Heel Triad Council of The Girl Scouts. (If The Girl Scouts are lawyering up on you, life is not going very well.)

Life was not going well for Mark & Yolanda in 2003. They were coming out of bankruptcy proceedings  in 1998 and 1999.  Further bankruptcy proceedings were gearing up in 2003.  The couple was also struggling to launch a daycare center in Greensboro.

According to court documents, The Girl Scouts were in possession of a returned check written by Yolanda D. Hill for the amount of $2,956.03.  On October 27, 2003, a Guilford County magistrate ruled in favor of The Girl Scouts — awarding them the face value of the returned check, a $25 processing fee plus a $5 bank service fee, plus $500 treble damages.

That comes to a grand total of $3,486.03.

(It appears the court also assessed Hill $60 in court costs and $443.40 in attorney’s fees.)

You may ask yourself: What was Yolanda attempting to purchase from the Scouts for the amount of $2,956.03?

The Girl Scouts’ legendary cookies were priced at about $3.50 per box in 2003.  You could buy one hell of a load of cookies for $2,956.03.
