Rand Paul: GOPe KEEPING ObamaCare!
That’s what the gentleman from Kentucky says today:
I miss the old days, when Republicans stood for repealing Obamacare. Republicans across the country and every member of my caucus campaigned on repeal – often declaring they would tear out Obamacare “root and branch!”
What happened?
Now too many Republicans are falling all over themselves to stuff hundreds of billions of taxpayers’ dollars into a bill that doesn’t repeal Obamacare and feeds Big Insurance a huge bailout.
Obamacare regulations? Still here. Taxes? Many still in place, totaling hundreds of billions of dollars. […]
But, but, but — Thom SAID ….
[…] Now, the Senate GOP plan being put forward is chock full of insurance bailout money – to the tune of nearly $200 billion. Republicans, present company excluded, now support the idea of lowering your insurance premium by giving a subsidy to the insurance company.
Remarkable. If the GOP now supports an insurance stabilization fund to lower insurance prices, maybe they now support a New Car stabilization fund to lower the price of cars. Or maybe the GOP would support an iPhone stabilization fund to lower the price of phones.
The possibilities are limitless once you accept that the federal government should subsidize prices. I remember when Republicans favored the free choice of the marketplace.
The Senate Obamacare bill does not repeal Obamacare. I want to repeat that so everyone realizes why I’ll vote “no” as it stands now:
The Senate Obamacare bill does not repeal Obamacare. Not even close.
In fact, the Senate GOP bill codifies and likely expands many aspects of Obamacare.
The Senate Obamacare-lite bill codifies a federal entitlement to insurance. With the Senate GOP bill, Republicans, for the first time, will signal that they favor a key aspect of Obamacare – federal taxpayer funding of private insurance purchases.
The bill will transfer billions of dollars to people who will then transfer billions of dollars to insurance companies. What a great business model – encourage the federal government to use taxpayer money to buy a private company’s product. Great business model, that is, if you are Big Insurance. Remarkable.
The Senate Obamacare-lite bill does what the Democrats forgot to do – appropriate billions for Obamacare’s cost-sharing reductions, aka subsidies. Really? Republicans are going to fund Obamacare subsidies that the Democrats forgot to fund?
Doesn’t sound much like repeal to me. One might even argue it’s worse than Obamacare-lite because it actually creates a giant superfund to bail out the insurance companies – something even the Democrats feared to do.[…]
Gee, I wonder what it’s like to have a real senator.
I think within the next couple of elections it will be time for the Republicans to pay the piper. If they sit there and fiddle while Rome burns we might as well have a whacko leftist who will not even pay lip service to doing the right thing At least then you know you are going to get a stinkbomb and not take your chances on the likes of Thommy or Tricky Dick.
In running for office, Tillis said repealing Obamacare was his number one priority. Lets see what he does. Mitchcare is NO repeal. It is merely rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic or Obamacare 2.0. My guess is that Tillis will betray his voters.
I cannot fathom the stupidity of McConnell and Ryan not actually repealing Obamacare, They are royally pissing on their base, turning off votes they will need in 2018. These morons may hand the Congress to the Democrats by their stupidity in dealing with this issue. Just like their state legislative counterparts have done with the completely asinine repeal of HB2..
The “conservative” movement had better get organized, if it’s not already too late. It will be impossible without a new generation of leaders. The present generation has become infected beyond a cure.
What do you expect when we elect one weasel after another. Burr and Tillis fit right in with the weasels in the GOP. The Bill that comes out of the Senate,if one does come out, will be almost the same as Obamacare. Anyone with 2 firing neurons can see ho corrupt our government and politics has become. Poor Rep. Scalise has paid a heavy price and he is all but forgotten. The left can kill policemen, shoot congressmen, call bills that don’t make any significant changes murder and those that propose them murderers and attack President Trump and his family mercilessly 24hrs a day.
A drug addict or alcoholic must hit bottom,I suppose the same for a nation. Our country can’t survive with the chains that are tightening everyday. Trump is trying his best to loosen them, but as I see it there is no one to help.
Of course the new Senate version of a health care law will keep the Affordable Care Act, for the most part, in place. They can’t take the ACA away without putting something better in place because too many people are benefiting from it. The public would benefit much more if the GOP agreed to needed and acknowledged improvements to the ACA. They can’t just repeal as Conservatives want and they can’t come up with something that doesn’t throw 22 million people off coverage which Moderates want to avoid.
Thank you President Obama. Now Congress, work together to make the ACA better for Americans.
For once we agree…as long as you replace “benefit” with attached to the government teat. So many are only looking at their government handout that they do not realize it is the government that is raising the price of their insurance at an almost exponential rate every year. What the GOP does not realize is that the ones attached to the teat are not the ones voting for them. I guess they will find it out next cycle…..I for one would vote for the likes Maxine Waters over Thom or Tricky Dick for any position at this point. At least you know what you get with crazy Maxine.
Why the hell should Congress rock THEIR boat? They are exempt from Ocare. They set the course. ” Steady as she goes”

So-called “moderate” Republicans are killing any hope of conservative reforms in Washington—or in Raleigh, for that mater. Sadly, the GOP is controlled by these moderate weasels. Conservatives turn out the votes, but then the weasel Republicans totally undercut us. This is why we will ultimately need a new conservative party.
Marm, you could not have used a more applicable word than “infected”. Big $$$$$ escalates the agony.

And to think Tricky Duck Burr referred to Cruz as “very disingenuous”for trying to stop the darn thing. While Dick Burr and his pals like Thad Cochran spouted a bunch of lies about repealing the thing with a republican senate. Then they got the senate and needed the president and now there is no one left to blame but their phony lying selves.
