Party disloyalty accusations to be discussed in November? (Uncle Phil is concerned.)
THIS is the latest we hear — on the down low and very unofficial:
A state GOP committee has met to review the party disloyalty allegations against senate president Phil Berger and has determined that multiple violations of the party’s Plan of Organization may have occurred. A process has been approved for the concerns and allegations against Berger to be heard and discussed at the November meeting of the NCGOP’s executive committee.
Multiple allegations of party disloyalty — most recently those by 3rd congressional district GOPers — have been brought against the legislative leader from Rockingham County over the last few years. The allegations are based somewhat on our reporting about Berger’s endorsement of an incumbent Democrat Superior Court judge who had a GOP opponent. The GOP challenger managed to win the election despite Berger’s endorsement of his Democrat opponent. (It appears that Berger also worked to help the defeated Democrat get appointed to a *special Superior Court judgeship.*)
This adds to other political drama already swirling around Phil Berger’s 2026 reelection campaign. The National Rifle Association has asked GOPAC – an organization supporting Berger – to take down its pro-Berger billboards the NRA says misuse its logo and mislead voters.
Phil Berger sits on GOPAC’s national advisory board.
