Now, Tillis is screwing up and thwarting Voter ID.
I’ve been tired of this guy since 2011. But – dammit – he just won’t go away.
Here’s the latest problem:
The SAVE Act federalizes the requirement to show ID when voting. Thom and some other RINOs will not work to allow it a vote in the Senate. The GOP-controlled House has already passed it. Trump is ready to sign it. Yet, Thom and his three RINO friends are wiling to tie up something overwhelmingly popular with their party’s base and the rest of SANE America.
The change to the filibuster is to make SAVE opponents actually talk through a filibuster. Right now, you don’t have to. SAVE proponents want opponents to have to stand up and make marathon speeches like Strom Thurmond, Robert Byrd and so many others throughout history had to do.
This Trump-supporting influencer is frustrated as are so many others like him AND The Trump White House. Yet, the Trump White House AND the Trump-controlled Republican National Committee are passionately and mercilessly shoving a Tillis-worshipping lobbyist – Michael Whatley – down our throats as the GOP nominee to replace Tillis in the Senate.
When Michael Whatley campaigned for state party chairman, he turned to Tillis to make endorsement speeches on his behalf. Whatley spent much of his tenure as NCGOP chairman providing cover for and protecting Tillis against grassroots (read: MAGA) efforts to censure or otherwise punish him.
Whatley has had no comment about Tillis efforts to obstruct the agenda of the president that he – Whatley – professes to love and fight for. Perhaps it is because he actually supports it?
Tillis has been a huge pain in the neck for Team Trump in DC. Yet, they are forcing Tillis 2.0 down our throats. WHY would you want six more years of Tillis-style treachery ???
The question is “What is Whatley doing to jerk Tillis into line?” Whatley is Tillis’ man and this will blow back on Whatley with the GOP base unless he beats some common sense into his mentor Tillis.

Steve, I absolutely agree that Tillis and Whatley are so closely linked that Tillis’ refusal to support the Save Act should blow back on Whatley, but I fear the GOPe (the Uniparty branch of the Republican Party) has done such a great job of deception that a lot of voters have no idea what is actually happening in NC elections or how closely Tillis is tied to Whatley.
In my opinion, Whatley, Tillis and Robin Hayes have neglected election integrity for years, which is why when the GOP staff tried to get delegates at the 2023 NCGOP state convention to endorse the idea that NC had a history of fair elections, the delegates overwhelmingly rejected that lie. In my opinion, the grassroots tried to send a message to Trump that most people at the convention had no use for Tillis and no belief that the NCGOP staff was working for election integrity as they should, but apparently the message never made it to Trump. (Or perhaps Trump was rightly concerned about how much havoc Tillis would cause in the rest of his term.)
Mr. Whatley actually came over to speak to me at the recent Union County Lincoln-Reagan-Douglass dinner and I asked him why Tillis was refusing to act to pass the Save Act. He told me Tillis had come out in support of the Act several weeks ago, and I told him that was NOT what I was hearing. I also suggested he might want to talk to Tillis about how offensive his refusal to act to protect our elections was and he said he would do so. We’ll see what happens.
IMO, anyone who supports requiring US citizenship and voter ID to vote in our elections should vote for Don Brown.
Anyone who wants six more years of Thom Tillis influencing legislation in the Senate more than they want to restrict voting to US citizens should vote for the person who tried to protect Tillis from the censure he earned.
