New polling for NC: Stein up big, Trump still has a close race

Many observers are pinning the GOP’s campaign 2024 fate in North Carolina to the performances of Mark Robinson and Donald Trump.

A number of recent polls of the presidential race in North Carolina paint things as cloooooooooooose.   A recent poll by Florida Atlantic University found Donald Trump with a 48-47 percent lead in North Carolina.

A WRAL / Survey USA poll finds Kamala Harris with a 49-46 percent lead in North Carolina.  Quinniapiac University’s poll also has Harris leading in NC by the same margin.

A poll released Monday by The Telegraph of London found Harris with a 45-44 percent lead in North Carolina.

You have to go back to late May / early June to find the last poll showing Republican Mark Robinson either tied or leading the race for North Carolina governor.

In a poll released Monday, WRAL News found Stein leading Robinson 51-37 percent.

In another poll released Monday, Quinniapiac University found Stein leading Robinson 54-42 percent.

As you can see, the polling is showing margins from one to fourteen percent. We’re thinking it’s really in the four to six percent range.

Some of the polls also reflect that belief.  As you can see, John Locke and their flagship publication Carolina Journal – renowned cheerleaders for Robinson – are even showing a five point lead for Stein.

If the double-digit margins produced by The New York Times, Fox News, High Point University, and Quinniapiac hold, 2024 may turn into a rather dark milestone for North Carolina Republicans.  The last time a GOP gubernatorial nominee went down in a double-digit loss was Patrick Ballantine (56-43) in 2004.  Robin Hayes lost just about as bad in 1996.

Things are not slated to become much better for Mark Robinson.  This coming Monday, his wife and her lawyers are slated to appear in Raleigh for a meeting with NC Department of Health & Human Services officials to discuss the problems with her beleaguered, now-shuttered business Balanced Nutrition.
