Narcolepsy? Somnambulism? (WHY so sleepy?)
Here at Haymaker HQ, we’ve been amazed over how many reports we’ve received about Pinehurst mayor Pat Pizzella – a recent arrival to the area — sleeping in public. The alleged settings of these reports range from a local meeting chaired by congressman Richard Hudson to various meetings of the Republican Men’s and Women’s clubs. Reports began numbering in the dozens and included lots of specific detail.
We thought some of this could be nonsense, exaggeration, or outright fabrication. But then the PHOTOS began to come in. (Two recent reader submissions are featured with this post.)
Why is our recently-arrived mayor falling asleep in public so often? This could be a sign of a serious medical condition that could be endangering his life (or possibly hindering his ability to do the job of mayor).
Maybe the time demands of the mayor job are too much. Before he came to us, “Parachute Pat” was making nice money lobbying DC politicians. (*You know, representing those “special interests” that state senate candidate Ray Daly tells us are so baaaaaaaaaad.* ). Surely, his schedule doing that was nowhere near as packed as the current one — loaded with bureaucratic confabs at Village Hall, Beautification Committee meetings, and Neighborhood Advisory Council get-togethers.
“Parachute Pat” came to us after the 2020 election. All of his friends were out of power. So, he needed somewhere to kill time until the GOP retook DC. The Pinehurst Village Council caught his eye. And the rest is history.
We’d like to do our part in commemorating this very special part of the Pizzella era — sleeping in public.
Keep sending us your stories about your encounters with Hizzoner sleeping in public. Keep your phone cameras handy to snap some pics that document your sightings.
It’s our hope that we can construct a very special online photo gallery honoring this man who got elected councilman and mayor in less than five years as a village resident — while fighting like hell to stay awake.
Send us what you’ve got or what you soon get.
