Advice for Tuesday …
We’ve been bombarded with questions from folks seeking recommendations about who to vote for on Tuesday. Here’s the sample ballot from my neck of the woods. It features local races that are important to Moore County residents, but no one else. There are other items on the ballot that people from Murphy to Manteo need to pay close attention to.
Constitutional Amendments: The most important one on the ballot – the only real no brainer – is voter ID. That one is a 100% FOR vote.
A close second is the tax rate cap. Seriously consider giving that a FOR vote.
AGAINST votes should be cast against: the judicial vacancy amendment, and the board of elections / ethics amendment.
We’ve got mixed emotions on the hunting and fishing amendment and the victim’s rights amendments. Go with your gut or leave them blank.
Congress: You saw how crazy the left got during the Trump inauguration and the Kavanaugh hearings. Vote for a Democrat for Congress on Tuesday, and you can guarantee at least two straight years of that kind of nuttiness non-stop. Most GOP incumbents are not having problems. But if you see the names Ted Budd, George Holding, or Mark Harris on your ballot, throw them your vote. For the sake of the country, it’s IMPORTANT. (What’s behind Door #2 is a lot freakin’ worse than anything those three have done or will do.)
NC General Assembly: We don’t need a majority change, but we do need some house-cleaning here. In Moore County, give Jamie Boles your vote for North Carolina House. (We have NO COMMENT on the NC Senate race.)
One of the real chances for a GOP pickup in the House is in Wake County. Marilyn Avila (R) is nipping at the heels of Joe John (D). If you see Marilyn Avila’s name on your ballot, please mark her name.
Another real shot at a GOP pickup is Jarrod Lowery (R) vs. incumbent Charles Graham (D) in Robeson County. If you vote in Robeson County, give Mr. Lowery some serious consideration.
Out west, I hear Amy Evans (R) is giving incumbent John Ager (R) a serious fight. If you see Amy Evans on the NC House portion of your ballot, please give her some serious consideration.
And now for some folks on Jones Street who we really won’t shed a tear over if they come up short on Tuesday: Nelson Dollar, Chris Malone, Jason Saine, Ed Goodwin, Bobby Hanig, Bob Steinburg. Enough with holding your nose!
In a lot of cases, the cause of limited government is taking a back seat to personal enrichment and influence accrual. In some cases, two years is not a long time to wait to correct a mistake.
NC Supreme Court: This is IMPORTANT. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson.Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson.Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson.Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. Barbara Jackson. (Have we made our point?)
NC Court of Appeals: The correct answers here are Chuck Kitchen, Andrew Heath, and Jefferson Griffin.
Moore County: All of the county commissioners are unopposed. There are two rotten choices for sheriff. (But all indications are that we will be stuck with at least four years of Smokey & The Bandit’s Buford T. Justice.)
For Board of Education, pick Sammy McNeill for district 3. For the two at-large seats, we have three lousy choices. Good luck. You’re on your own with that one.
For Superior Court, Michael Stone is the correct answer.
For District court, the correct answers are Steve Bibey and Warren McSweeney.
You’ve got your marching orders. Now go get it done.
Brant, I totally agree with this article. I would have liked to see it posted earlier though !
ANY vote for Anglin on the Supreme Court is an UNINFORMED voter.
PLEASE everyone go vote today if you have not.
