Grassroots to turn up heat on NCGOP leaders re: ObamaCare on Saturday?
NCGOP leaders have been patting themselves on the back for getting Pat McCrory into the governor’s mansion, and Richard Hudson and George Holding into Congress. Meanwhile, we’ve still got record unemployment and Lame Duck Bev has gotten the ball rolling on implementing ObamaCare. Surprisingly, all of these Republicans who ran for office this year bashing Bev and Barry Obama are not offering a word in protest.
Our friends at PunditHouse, over in Charlotte , have gotten word about a resolution to be submitted at Saturday’s meeting that likely has His Eminence, The Duke of Concord, Sir Robin guzzling Pepto:
The road to setting up an Obamacare health exchange in North Carolina could be headed for a new twist this weekend, when a resolution is likely to be offered at Saturday’s NCGOP State Executive Committee meeting calling for Pat McCrory, Thom Tillis and Phil Berger to return the $73.5 million in federal money accepted by Gov. Bev Perdue last month for use in creating a state/federal hybrid exchange.
Via Adam Love, who informs on his Facebook page that, “Most, if not all, Republican members of the General Assembly are ex-officio members of the NCGOP State Executive Committee. Up until now, no one in party leadership or legislative leadership has taken a public stance about when or whether this money will be returned, and the state/federal hybrid exchange agreed to by Bev Perdue overturned by our incoming Republican governor and incoming Republican supermajority in the General Assembly.”
The resolution that reportedly will be offered at Saturday’s meeting in Cary would change that:
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RETURN OF FEDERAL MONIES INTENDED FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A STATE/FEDERAL HEALTHCARE EXCHANGE IN NORTH CAROLINA
WHEREAS Governor BEV PERDUE recently accepted $73.5 million in federal money for the express purpose of establishing a hybrid state/federal healthcare exchange in North Carolina, and
WHEREAS the TENTH AMENDMENT to the US CONSTITUTION prohibits the Federal Government from assuming any powers not specifically delegated to it by the US CONSTITUTION, and
WHEREAS the NINTH AMENDMENT to the US CONSTITUTION guarantees to the People rights not enumerated in the US CONSTITUTION and reserves to the People of North Carolina those rights, and
WHEREAS the United States Supreme Court has ruled in NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS v. SEBELIUS, 567 S. CT. 11-393 (2012), that “the legitimacy of Congress’s exercise of the spending power…rests on whether the State voluntarily and knowingly accepts the terms of the contract,” and
WHEREAS Republican governors such as RICK PERRY, SCOTT WALKER, PAUL LEPAGE, AND NIKKI HALEY have publicly refused to establish state-run healthcare exchanges in their states, and
WHEREAS North Carolina elected a Republican governor and Republican supermajority to the General Assembly in the 2012 general election,
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED,
that we, the North Carolina Republican Party Executive Committee, urge Governor-elect Pat McCrory, NC House Speaker Thom Tillis, and Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger to immediately signal their intent to return the $73.5 million in federal monies intended for use in setting up an ObamaCare Exchange, and state further that no other cooperation in establishing such an exchange will be forthcoming from any part of North Carolina’s state government.

It’s hard to understand WHY NCGOP leadership is so reluctant to speak up about this. Who are you worried about offending? I hope this resolution DOES get a fair hearing at the meeting. We need to get some of our leaders on the record about this incredibly important issue that threatens our economy, our country, and our way of life.
If you go to the meeting, and get some good audio or video — send it our way. It will only add to our already extensive collection of Robin Hayes digital media.
There will also be a resolution opposing the RNC rules changes in Tampa. It will call fpr a return to the 2008 rules. It also instructs the NCGOP to send a certiied letter to the RNC to state NCS position. It has also been endorsed by Dr. Ada Fisher RNC National Cimmitteewoman.
The grassroots needs to let our voice be heard!
Someone else who needs to hear from us is Boehner, who has just conducted a massacre of conservatives on committee assignments, and is on the verge of caving in to Obama on taxes and spending. Of course, that should be addreseed to our Congressional delegation, asking them to vote the interests of their consituents, not the interests of the DC establishment on these issues.
And specifically, there are three newly elected GOP Reps from NC. It’s not too early to start making noise about primary challenges. And some of them may not be able to depend on a heavy turnout to save their hides in May 2014 unless there is another controversial amendment on the ballot.
