General Assembly GOP can’t unite on question of sheriffs cooperating with ICE

It seems like a no-brainer, right?  You’re in law enforcement.  Another law enforcement agency contacts you to do something for them – like, say, hold a suspect in custody until they can get to you.   And you do it for them, right?  Inter-agency cooperation is what I think they call it.

Unfortunately, we have about three big-city, leftist-controlled sheriff’s offices who have decided they will not aid US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) in enforcing the immigration laws. (But they’ll gladly take all kinds of grant money from those same feds. Oh, yes they will.)

Here’s the latest:

[…] But negotiators failed to hammer out a final bill that would force sheriffs and jailers to comply with federal immigration requests to hold inmates believed to be in the country illegally. The House and Senate couldn’t resolve what to do about a sheriff who still failed to comply, said Sen. Danny Britt, a Robeson County Republican and negotiator. […]

Obstructing an investigation ???  Anyone? Anyone?  (*Bueller?*)

A previous article had Britt suggesting that there was some discomfort out there about handing suspects over to ICE after stopping them for minor traffic infractions.  *SO, we need something “serious” like – say – MURDER to find out if they are also violating immigration law?*

The construction and berry picker lobbies have got to be breathing a sigh of relief over this one.

At this point, one seriously has to wonder if there is ANY portion of the GOP platform that elected Republicans will fight to defend.
