Campaign 2013: Big changes ahead for Pinehurst village council?

vote124Candidate filing opens up here in Moore County on July 5.  Well-plugged-in insiders at Pinehurst Village Hall are telling me that there very well could be TWO open seats on the ballot for Pinehurst village council in November.

My sources tell me that incumbent councilman Mark Parson does not intend to file for re-election in 2013.  Parson has been appointed twice to fill unexpired terms on the council.  (He ran for council in 2011, but lost.  He was appointed to fill the unexpired council term of Nancy Fiorillo, who won that year’s mayoral race.)

I have also been told that incumbent Doug Lapins is leaning toward not seeking reelection in 2013.  But his advocacy for Pinehurst dollars makes him sound like a candidate revving up for reelection.

My sources tell me that real estate attorney Clark Campbell is positioning himself to run for a Pinehurst village council seat.

It will be interesting to see what other news and / or surprises the filing period brings.
