A prime candidate for a budget cut
A county government mole tells me various county officials’ sights have been set on a budget line item entitled: “Non-Profit: Grants & Contingency.”
In some circles, this is derisively known as “Cary McSwain’s slush fund.” (county budget classification #: 1005 1037 56024)
This fund’s disbursements,
at McSwain’s discretion, typically go to pet projects of commissioners, county department heads, and municipal leaders.
For 2011, total spending reported was $300. Total budgeted amount: $228,819. Year to date expenditures on the fund have totaled $8,056. Plans are underway to cut this fund down to $125,000 — or less.
Why not eliminate the “slush” fund completely?
Just get rid of it
