#ncpol: Things that make you go HMMMMMM.

The starsenio.fwate board has unveiled a neat new search feature that allows you to browse campaign filings by TYPE. The search engine allows you to go through all kinds of clickable PDF files to see the exact images.  Cool stuff.

Though, my experiments with it gave me cause for concern.  First, in June of this year, it was reported that the state board had voted to refer state senator Fletcher Hartsell’s campaign finance case to state and federal prosecutors.  As of today, the state board’s site offers no evidence of any correspondence documenting said referral.  (We DID find this July letter to the board from Hartsell’s lawyer.)

My second concern regards the campaign for secretary of state by A.J. Daoud.  In March, Daoud and his campaign were fined $10,000 for failing to file reports from his 2012 attempt for the office.  The penalty letter said Daoud would not be able to file or run for another office until the fine was paid off.  We found documents where Daoud and his representatives asked that the penalty be forgivkermiten or waived.  But we can’t seem to find ANY evidence showing that the board actually waived or forgave the $10,000 fine or that Daoud paid it off.   Daoud has filed for the 2016 GOP primary for secretary of state.
