UNC public radio thumbs its nose at taxpayers
Lefties are upset over Elon Musk’s support of Donald Trump. So, they’re picking up their marbles at Twitter / X and moving over to something called Bluesky. Check out what our *favorite* cabal of taxpayer-funded Martians over in Chapel Hill are up to:
Oh, drat. Now, we’ll be missing the *wit and wisdom* of WUNC star Colin “Restroom” Campbell, who established himself as one of the most shameless drive-by media propagandists during the whole HB2 kerfuffle. (In case you were wondering, Colin apparently favors drag queens in BOTH bathrooms.)
SO, if you want your daily dose of Campbell, I guess you’ll now have to actually give a damn about what Bluesky IS and how to get on it.
So, our Republican-controlled UNC boards and legislature are winking and nodding at this overt anti-MAGA nose-thumbing by an entity we’re forced to pay for each year?
How is pulling away from X and going over to Bluesky good business sense? Why not play in both arenas to reach the widest possible swath of people you can?
Start talking about making these people actually pay their own way, and you’ll hear hollering about depriving poor minorities of culture at its finest. It’s funny. The only evidence I see of public support for WUNC is bumper-stickers on Volvos driven by college faculty.
In this era of satellite radio and streaming, you can find ANY kind of entertainment or enlightenment you want – high bred culture or otherwise – without a dime of public money.
It’s fine for UNC radio to have its own editorial opinions. Just pay their own way. If they don’t want to pay, how about showing a wee bit of respect for noncommunist viewpoints? An occasional conservative commentator or two?
Private radio stations are struggling for survival as-is. Why prop up WUNC (at the expense of private-owned radio) and protect it from the volatility of the market – when its employees have such utter contempt for most all of us?
