Tillis goes to mat to stop Trump cuts to solar+wind energy subsidies

There are actually a few things our senior US senator will fight for — things that generate larger than average donations to his campaign.

Thom Tillis went to bat early in his state legislature career for *alternative energy* subsidies.  As House speaker,  Tillis fought to extend the life of said subsidies over the objections of conservatives.

In the US Senate, Tillis is flexing what muscle he has to stop Trump administration efforts to choke the life out of so-called *clean-energy* credits:

[…] Sens. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Curtis (R-Utah), Murkowski and Moran wrote a letter to Senate Thune last month to “emphasize the importance of maintaining a stable and predictable tax framework to promote domestic energy development.”

“We caution against the full-sale repeal of current credits, which could lead to significant disruptions for the American people and weaken our position as a global energy leader,” they warned.

Tillis said Thursday that the House bill would need to be changed to avoid stranding billions of dollars of private-sector investment in clean energy projects. […]

A lot of that “investment” — especially in North Carolina — came about as a result of Tillis and his cronies in the legislature ramming solar and wind energy mandates down the throats of the state’s utilities and, of course, their customers.  (The only real disruptions that would be detected would be the flow of cash from special interests into Thom’s wallet.)

MORE:

“If millions or billions of dollars have been deployed, we’ve got to give those businesses some offramp,” he said.

He said suddenly cutting off renewable energy subsidies would “have the same sort of effect” as what the oil industry suffered when former President Biden “just arbitrarily canceled the [Keystone] XL pipeline” in 2021. […]

Solar and wind energy are being propped up by statist politicians like Thom Tillis.  They’re not as widely in use as oil and natural gas are. They’re not as dependable as oil or natural gas.  Oil and natural gas don’t leave you in a bind — high and dry — on cloudy and /or windless days.

At best, solar and wind are backup sources of energy.  We’d be in huge trouble if we tried to make do with them as our primary sources of power.

This effort is not for the benefit or the good of the American taxpayers.  It’s all about protecting the government benefits Tillis has been growing and nurturing for his contributors since his arrival in big-time politics.  THIS is all about Thommy’s wallet — making it fatter.

Is this more of that alleged *Trump loyalty* nonsense the drive-by media keeps trying to wrap Tillis in?

Solar and wind energy are outrageously expensive for those who produce it as well as for those forced to consume it.  That’s why proponents have to dangle subsidies out there.

For the benefit of those who forget easily, here is a great real-time tracker of our ever-growing national economic nightmare.
